I read your post and I do appreciate someone with a veteran status sharing this sentiment, because this is the exact same conclusion I have arrived at, even if you may not think so. I know my replies are scattered far and about in this thread, because I have largely given up with the dicourse here due to how emotional it is. And I dock points from your reply for indulging in that nonsense, in a way.
This sort of conduct is flag worthy, you do not add anything to discourse with this sort of smug, arrogant nonsense. It is people like you who keep us from being taken by seriously, because you treat this as an argument, rather than an opportunity to craft a proper solution.
I will go on a limb and reiterate some of my past statements, that being that I do not necessarily oppose a tank only mode, but also think that CAS has a place in gameplay. But as Ckasaron says, and I agree with, it is treated like a kill streak. That is the root of the issue, because it is treated as a reward for kills rather than as a part of the game properly.
The thing with this topic is that it’s such a strong topic, and with hindsight I should’ve honestly made this thread more critical of CAS, rather than focusing on the player aspect, as one user put it here in the past “How player skill downplays the CAS problem” is a very good assessment of what this really is about. It simply feels pointless to engage here, considering how my points have been misconstrued how many times at this point.
In all fairness, this thread was made by a more naive version of me. The simple truth is that CAS is oppressive. But I do have to say that modern systems added in the last few patches do sorta shift the power scale towards a more fair engagement now, considering both sides have access to long range, fire and forget weapons to sling at each other. This thread was made arguably, at the time when CAS was at it’s height (when they had high performance F&F weapons, but SPAA really didn’t) I still remember matches where you could have an Eurofighter with Brimstones face nothing but stuff like Roland’s; missiles that plane could roll with 0 issue even at close ranges.
Much like many things in this game, the game design behind CAS has not evolved with the rest of the game. Much like we are stuck standing in the same circles, the philosophy behind the implementation of CAS is equally out of date. I don’t understand how this is confusing to people, because this is exactly where the issue stems from. The whole gameplay loop in general is extremely flawed, and we desperately need a longer lasting match format with dynamic objectives for ground. There’s a reason I don’t really bother to play ground these days, and it’s because of how unfulfilling it feels.
I should make a new thread in all fairness, maybe a longer form suggestion post detailing a solution for a fundamental CAS rework, but it’s extremely hard to write because it would essentially be a proposal for a GRB rework in general.
Either way, people should stop being such petulent children in this thread. The arguments about KD, and other superficial things are so intellectually dishonest that it makes anyone reasonable want to keep an arm’s length from this discourse.
Honestly, even the CAS debate itself at this point shouldn’t be anyone’s primary focus. I feel what we should push for more is a complete revamp of the feedback and suggestion system to begin with. So we could actually be able to push through changes. This is something I plan writing a detailed suggestion post on at some point, and if someone wants to participate, I invite you now. My PMs are open, we can talk details there more, but this is the actual priority. It’s the one thing everyone would agree on, and would definitely gain traction here on the forum for how I see it.

Indeed, I already did, sent the guy a compilation of my entire idea set with reasoning behind it.
To sum it up bluntly: “Snail did stupid shit at the very beginning, but subsequent changes were not JUST Snail’s fault - much of their actions were direct harebrained responses to the ceaseless whining of fools who refuse to adapt. Without enacting appropriate justice against the whiners who got the game into this mess, and ensuring they can never harm the game again no matter how loud they screech, I have no faith that true, meaningful reform to CAS is even possible. Because even IF some modest reforms got through - they’d just get screamed back down again in a matter of months, tops.”

Again, people adapt and that’s why we have at least 50% lobby ODL, even though they added free vehicles and free buck ups. It means problem wasn’t people don’t having line ups - problem is game mechanics, which you guys don’t want to understand even when it’s explained repeatedly.
Until you guys and Gaijin isn’t addressing to this issues (maps, uptiers, CAS) adding free lineups and “giving everyone tools to fight back” isn’t going to change anything.
I’ll explain 1 more time:

Some like big maps, some small so give people toggle (like night battles) to choose. Maps I don’t like I’m just not spawning, as many others do, or ODL.

Again toggle to choose uptiers 0.3, 0.7 or regular. Nobody wants sweaty full uptiers, again people ODL or not spawning at all, just leave join next and hope it’s not full uptier again.

CAS - toggle, want play with CAS well come, don’t want - toggle. And no more complaints.
About queue time, Gaijin should let people choose they want wait longer and have fun, or join immediately and sweat. And people will have nobody but themselves to blame about queue times.

You say that people adapt and that they all ODL, but many of us adapt and don’t ODL. And it’s not as many as you try put out that are ODLing.

Speculation?? Is it fact that Gaijin added free backups and vehicles or not? Is it fact that after few minutes there is half lobby gone?
Any mentality healthy person should understand there’s different problem people have with game, people refuse to spawn more than once, max 2 times that’s FACT.
You can throw troll comment as many you want, we all play game and see how it’s going and there definitely other problem then lineups and “OP SPAAG” or CAP.

You denied that ODL excist at all in gameplay and that everyone just playing without leaving the battle as soon they only verhicle got destroyed and not using the free verhicles provided by Gaijin.
