title is explanatory, but is there much difference on each ship? for example the light cruisers at Malta or destroyers at Hokkaido. if so, what would be the most efficient way to sink them?
torpedo
From experience in ASB (and an assumption that they are exactly the same model) its not necessarily how much that matters but where you hit them. Especially as the main way to kill them is via crew damage and not other mechanics (they could really do with disabling the ability for AI ships to repair certain damage)
Like for example, Cargo ships can be sunk with a 500lb bomb to the bridge instantly, but ive also seen one tank multiple 1000lb that hit the main deck
For warships, the turrets and thus ammo racks are usually a safe bet
For destroyer though Id usually say 1-2 good hits from a 1000lb bomb, fairly evenly distributed to spread the damage.
Light cruisers usually 2-3, again distributed.
Carriers (at least USS forestal found at higher BRs) hit the turrets, start a fire on these and it will almost always kill. I destroyed one with a single Paveway IV before but had one survive 32+ 1000lb bombs across the deck.
So hitting them in the right spot, and they might go down with 1, really depends on the target and the bomb though, but location usually matters more than quantity .
I do not recommend to target these ships - 2 reasons:
- Every non-braindead player keeps an eye on the kill feed. Cruisers and destroyers are usually in groups of 3. So it is rather easy to locate an enemy player - who is usually low in order to increase drop accuracy.
- The cost benefit ratio for killing a ship (Carrier, Battleship, Cruisers or destroyers) is way lower than dropping your payload on a base. On Pacific maps (with a hell of ships) you face also the issue that the ship aaa damages your plane almost guaranteed.
In case you still want to go for ships:
In the recent years gaijin implemented the more advanced damage model from the Naval game mode in Air RB ship targets, so it depends also where you hit the ship.
I killed several hundred ships over the years (Air RB) mainly in order to get the tsunami reward - a 800 kg bomb is usually enough for a destroyer if your bomb lands somewhere in front of the bridge. 500 or 600 kg bombs work too, but it is hit or miss - if you score a hit without a kill you get a mission score of 6 (!!!) points, a kill counts around 150 mission scoreβ¦
I am ever grateful.
Thank you.
