How do you dogfight in the f15j (or f15a, same flight model pretty sure)

How should i dogfight in the f15a/j? Currently it’s my fav plane to do BVR in; however, i struggle slightly in dogfights since it can turn well, though it has no energy retention. I’m guessing i need to fight vertically(?), any tips?

You need to learn how to conserve your energy during dogfights and to learn how to read opponents moves first.

Despite underperforming in dogfight First 15 series does well in dogfights, especially when it goes vertical, not to mention if you’re opponent uses single engine fighter you can always drag them to high altitude where F-15 shines.

Still dogfight should be your last resort in any high tier jets, especially in F-15’s cause it was designed to be stay fast and do in and out tactics while maintaining energy. Dont get into dogfight unless you’re on low fuel.

avoid dogfight unless it is absolutely neccesary.

but once there I had some luck with vertical loops as well as limited use of AoA button once on top of the loop.

It doesn’t have the same flight mode as 15A, as it is closer to 15C because of the expanded fuel capacity.

Easy, you don’t. Not until you have like 5< minutes of fuel remaining.

Everything mogs you in a dogfight unless you, again, carry less than 5 minutes of fuel. And even then, you have to fully commit on AOA and force a vertical turnfight to try your luck.

The F-15J is slightly heavier than the F-15A, nearly negligible, but its still there. In conclusion, try to avoid dogfights like, at all.

And again, as I said in the battle rating changes thread, it doesn’t suprise me at all the first F-15s are getting moved down, as besides their IRCCM missiles, they’re not really that fantastic either. The radar is weak and its raw flight performance is just fine for BVR, something impossible to achieve with a weak radar + sparrows (hence why the F-15C MSIP II albeit having worse flight performance, it feels substantially better than the F-15A by having a much better mechanical radar + AIM-120s).
