How do I properly play the M901 to maximize its usefulness

I have unlocked the M901 a while ago. I find it difficult to play, especially facing tanks with a lot more firepower (such as the TURM III and early soviet mbts).

The M901 is my best bet at researching USA ranks 5-6 because of its high RP stats.

So how should I play it properly? I find it hard to position because of its low horsepower and not get machine gunned to death.
