this thing could be 8.0 and still barely be functional.
To start, you are nearly as tall as a maus and have so little armor that .50s pen your turret. You have nearly no internal bulkheads and die to overpressure from anything explosive in the same zip code.
Then you have a wheeled chassis that barely turns combined with a glacial turret rotation for an autocannon vehicle. You aren’t even all that fast 540hp on a 28 ton wheeled chassis means you can’t reach your top speed except on downhills.
Then you have a 100 rpm autocannon that starts with 87 pen apds. And unlike most autocannon ifvs, disabling the main gun isn’t enough, you have to disable both that and the .50 because you die to the .50. Even the 114 pen apfsds isn’t very good at 100 rpm.
Even the awful warrior is better than this thing. The warrior got bad atgms as a backup to things it couldn’t kill frontally. This thing… yeah nothing. Can’t flank due to its size and speed, can’t fight in cities due to its vulinerability to .50s, turret rotation, and wheeled chassis, and can’t even disable tanks quickly due to its fire rate.
Nothing about this vehicle is 9.0 material. Its easily the worst autocannon vehicle i’ve played and universally AA are better at performing any role this thing can better.
You’ll find no other armored personnel carrier with a autocannon and APDS-FS belts in lower battle rating, things will be like that for long, specially in the battle rating 9.0 and battle rating 9.7 range whereas most of these vehicles stay today. I’d personally like to see BTR-82AT at higher battle rating but the missile count and ammunition for the autocannon being the limiting factor (as for Gaijin wheeled vehicles mobility not being a issue at all it seems), it will stay where it is now, I have some hopes that it will have its battle rating increased to battle rating 9.7 at the best of the scenarios.
100 rpm makes that irrelevant. APDS at similar pen fired at 600+rpm is universally better. The falcon and AMX 30 DCA are both far better at every single role you play.
it might only have 4 missiles, but they can be fired from total cover.
that alone makes it WAY more powerful than the Sadger™
there is a resaon why the battlefield is swarmed with the BTR and and you might only see the Sadger™ once a day (im spading it right now, so i know first hand)
The Badger is somewhat mediocre due to several game flaws. One is the small maps, where it’s difficult to find enemies from the side. The other flaw is that the South Africans chose that cannon model with a low rate of fire because they prioritized accuracy above all else, allowing it to hit targets at 2000 or even 4000 meters. Therefore, the Badger would be designed to destroy other IFVs from a distance where enemies would have difficulty hitting them, and this doesn’t happen in the game. First, because there aren’t maps that allow for that, and second, because the developers gave the Badger’s cannon the same accuracy as the other automatic cannons, negating its only realistic advantage.
Otherwise, the Badger functions more or less like other wheeled IFVs that only use a cannon, with the disadvantage of a lower rate of fire. Also, the Badger has thermal imaging for the gunner, but judging by the appearance of the commander’s sight, I imagine it should also have thermal imaging for the commander.
And it’s still trash. All that matters with autocannon spam for the most part is rate of fire and the Badger doesn’t have it. I’ve been playing Britain 9.0, and I reach for the Falcon or ZA-35 over the Badger. Out of the 35 Britain 9.0 games I’ve played since Chieftain 400 was added, I’ve used the Badger in 3 games. And it has been sitting there in my lineup for everyone of those games. There’s just not really a situation where I think to myself, ‘jeese, this situation calls for the Badger’.
This thing is also better on paper than ingame. It has a silly drop on its ATGM that will have you sending missiles into the ground when you’re hiding behind cover or inclines, which is the one strength this vehicle even has (the ATGM high up with a well placed aim sight).
