Soviet 20mm are generally really good because of a high RoF and ease of aiming.
50cals again, tend to be a lot of hits in a concentrated area really quickly.
Hispanos I find will blow something apart with a good burst, but you need to land the full burst onto the target for that, on stuff like the spitfire that can be tricky with their wing mounted position…but I’ve never really felt anything taking an ungodly amount of damage to die, usually a 1 or so second burst does the job.
Also where your aiming might impact to, but that can be difficult to control in the fight.
What conversation are you using? Ive heard that hispanos have a damage drop off past 500m and.whilst I’ve never seen concrete confirmation of that, it does seem to work quite well for me
I think your clip shows the solution to the problem.
You hit him in full profile.
After all these ammo updates the ammo seems to be extremely angle sensitive.
Full rear aspect you do sh**. Sometimes I need more than 100 rounds 30mm of modern guns in rear aspect.
90° like in your clip one round or a short burst is enough most of the time.
But the US bias is obvious.
Doesn’t matter which US cannon I use, wing- or nose-mounted, they hit way better than anything else.
Browning-Colt Mk12 Mod 3 shreds everything with a view rounds.
The only more reliable cannon outside US is the ShVAK with tracer belt full of FI-T to me.
Long time ago I used 800m because I flew Horten a lot.
With the cannon nerf on the Horten I changed it to 500m because longe range shots aren’t possible anymore. And I still use 500m on every plane.
Additionally you need less ammo on ground targets, because at this range you hit harder.
afaik That one HE bug since last major update (The same one at the start, “fixed” but not fixed?) have smth to do with hispano HE as well… But after all 4xhispano5 today can’t even win 6x50cal in damage… bruh
I’ve always found that the case to be honest. Not that I’ve ever had an issue with killing something from the rear, but 99% when I’m firing at something, it’s probably turning trying to throw me off their tail. If they don’t react,.I just blew away their control surfaces.
Still never had an issue with something dying from hispanos. If I’d make a guess. Damage models just happen to favour quantity over quality and the spray and pray you get from the high ammo count and larger number of guns with the 50 cals.
The main downside of Hispanos is that you get at most 2/3 HE running stealth and HE overperforms so much, while SAPI is incredible bad, that they aren’t as strong as they should be compare to other cannons.
US AN/M2s are literally Hispano Mk. II but they only get Ball, AP-T and HEFI but you can run a 100% HEFI belt, boosting damage over British Hispanos.
Apart from the fact that they are implemented with more HE filler despite firing literally the same HEFI shell, and the Devs simply refuse to fix that.
They also don’t get Tracer or SAPI which are practically less effective than a .50cal API.
I dou not understand the complaints ppl are having with 20mm. Mg-151 (Me 410, Bf 109G-2, Fw 190D-9/F-8) and Hispanos (Hurricane and Typhoon) have been working pretty well for me. They’re certainly far better than .50cals.
SM 92 just deleted planes instantly . . . when I don’t miss an entire 100 round burst.
Not out of sympathy, but out of curiosity as you described issues with the Sea Fury and MK V Hispanos and i would like to see a replay why - from my pov Hispanos are a great weapon.
I mean i see daily Wyverns with the same weapon wrecking havoc on enemy teams - and the Mk II Hispanos i use frequently in the Firefly are killing reliably enemies with just a few hits. They only fighters which need more are usually from the USSR.
2 days ago i saw a plain Mosquito killing 5 enemies with plenty of 20mm ammo left. (Replay link). The Hispano cannons in the VB 10 are showing similar results and are imho an excellent weapon.
I use the universal belt as i like the flexibility to have the option to kill one or 2 medium ai tanks in a quiet phase of the match.
if it works - great. From my pov convergence is a question of your play style and resulting average combat ranges. The combat ranges of the Firefly are way closer as i use it as turnfighter whilst the VB 10 is used as BnZ/BnRun with much greater distances; so i use 600 for the Firefly and 800 for the VB 10.
It’s not restricted to Mk.V Hispanos. It’s all of them. Hispano Mk.II are the worst offenders in my experience. They are by far the worst 20mm’s in the game, by a wide margin.
For me, Wyvern’s are plane food. They don’t achieve anything. In ARB they’ll rush one base and die, in GRB they’ll bomb one target and die - two if they’re lucky.
I’m not saying Hispano’s are incapable of destroying aircraft. That would be a serious issue that would be hotfixed immediately.
I have recently been grinding through the French tree and playing other vehicles so I have no recent replays.
Idk what to say - i flew just 4 U two matches in the Firefly - 1st one was bad (just an assist and a few ground targets), 2nd one showed the usual result: 2-3 hits kill a fighter:
