Autocannon vehicles are pretty rare at 11.0+ and for good reason, they’re just not on-par with a Leo 2A7V, M1A2 SEP, T-80BVM, etc.
I honestly don’t know what gave you the impression that auto cannons rule top-tier. Maybe you’re just playing vehicles that are vulnerable to them such as M1128’s, Begleitpanzer’s, 2S25’s, etc.?
People bother with MBT’s because they’re the meta.
To put it simply: A 2S38 or BMP-2M is less mobile than a M1/Leo 2A4, requires more time to kill an M1/Leo 2A4 than the other way around, their main armaments can’t reliably penetration various MBT’s frontally, they’re extremely vulnerable and generally not easy to use for a average player.
Likely their only frame of reference is other video games. So when lower calibre rounds are disabling their MBT, it probably flies in the face of what other video games and lower tier War Thunder has led them to believe, hence the notion that they’re overperforming.
