With super small maps that fits best for an M4 Sherman and a Panther A, I don’t see a good reason to bring an MBT to a fight in most matches I have. Currently I have been using different methods to show people what I think of their map likes and they tend to get very angry when I bring a T-34-85 into combat instead of a T-90M… Well, I don’t feel bad for them because they chose Sinai (Small version) as a top tier map to play on… Not my fault.
However, I would like to see the 3KM+ maps to be added for 8.0+, anything with a laser range finder should only have 3KM+ maps, nothing below that range limit in my opinion.
It is also rather annoying to have to deal with instant spawn camping because the spawns are so close together, I have instances of having to literally sit in my spawn because I know for a fact there is 4 leopards around the corner, 2 light vehicles also waiting in the distance to snipe me out. If that is how people wanna play, let them have that for themselves, I don’t wanna play like that and I am getting really annoyed at it.
Best fix I can currently think of is adding the 3.6km Second Battle of El Alamein to rotation (For 9.3+)
Add an even bigger version of Eastern Europe or European Province as it was named.
Have an even bigger Sand of Sinai, since the balanced parts of the map got removed…
Red Desert should be seen more often at 8.0 AND HIGHER, not BR 4.0 like it is now…
These effects should also take place in Ground SB because that mode struggles the most with this issue. Pradesh is not exactly the best map to have in SB…
It’s a big shame that someone actually have to mention this because I was hoping this was fixed last year but it’s gotten much worse over time
Nearly all of the small maps are all locked at and below BR 7.7, so not sure why you’re complaining about them when the maps we have access to for top BRs are an average size of 2.5+km by 2.5+km, medium/large maps depending on your perspective.
Both Sinai maps are medium and large, neither are small; and the smaller Sinai map is large for WW2 tanks whose maximum range tends to be ~2km. There is no minimum range for tanks after all.
That’s unrealistic as modern MBTs are designed to engage targets 100m - 4000m in effective ranges.
Not sure why you’re complaining about team skill right after complaining about maps you physically cannot see, and medium sized maps that are realistic.
Most maps for top BR are medium to large sized maps. There are 2 - 4 small maps available, and one of them is Advance to the Rhine.
I agree that top BR needs more diversity, but it’s not like we’re strapped for large maps; though I get the medium and small maps more often when I play during my American daylight hours, whereas if I wait for China to be awake I see more large maps.
The panther A excels at long distance combat, and it is considerably weaker in CQC compared to long range combat. Players (unfortunately) have no control over the map rotation, so blaming them for it is wrong.
No. Having only long range sniping maps is just as bad as having only CQC maps, if not worse. 8.0 is way too low for that restriction too, I’d rather have it at 9.7 if it were to be added.
It is limited to 9.7+ I believe.
I’d like to see more sim variants used in RB, however.
It’s also nearly impossible to force combat to be purely long range without it being boring gameplay. Every map will have to have CQC due to how objectives are designed.
I’d say that there’s a fair mix of small-medium maps with slightly less long distance maps. Golden quarry is a larger map, but it primarily has close/medium combat.
Sure, 100m - 4000m ranges, and yet I have best case scenario of 10m - 50m combat situations. And yes, the game sees Sinai and most maps as medium to large, but not large enough… I think they should be a tiny bit bigger so it is possible to get out of spawn in the beginning of the match.
As for team skills, yeah there is a huge lack in that department, sure I have some to but not that badly, entire teams gone in 2.5 seconds and I am stuck there alone trying to fight my way to victory somehow. But that is a discussion for another time.
Idk honestly know what to say here because I tend to get bigger maps at lower BR’s than higher, not sure why
I am having more fun using WW2 against modern MBT’s even at 2km, sure there is a huge risk of me losing that fight but, the challenge of it makes it more fun than playing the modern MBT
Depends on player preference and time of day.
When Gaijin said Red Desert is mostly liked and I got it mostly when China was awake told me that China loves Red Desert while USA hates it.
Which also checks out cause my fellow Americans on average tend to prefer shorter matches cause they incorrectly think they get more research per minute; when in reality you get the most research per minute when the matches last longer.
Yes, the rotation is not the players fault, but the average rotation is, most people tend to like the smaller maps because of easy spawn rush. That is on the players, not on Gaijin sadly :/
I don’t even get Red Desert at anything higher than 7.7, it happens once every like 3 weeks or so… Other than that I tend to get it under 7.7 more frequently… That part I find really strange.
I tend to disagree here, I think a Leopard 2A7AV should be allowed to sit in a sniping position somewhere instead of being in a extreme CQC scenario, but that’s just me! And I do also think certain aspects of ground battles are a bit weird when it comes to where spawn positions are on the map, such as Ardennes (Snow version), that spawn hill on the southern part being on the hill while the other team gets put behind cover. Sort of like that annoys me the most with these maps.
And yes, the Panther is very good at ranges, it wasn’t exactly built for direct contact but more 800m+ combat, so my german friends says.
Funny you should mention that, I have a british friend that has the same idea, not because of shorter matches or anything like that, he just thinks Ground RB gives you more RP minute over SB… Don’t know where these ideas really comes from but yeah. I tend to prefer long matches, engaging fun with duels across some dunes or something, not instant combat and instantly lose. I actually hate that, really boring really quickly
I am pretty sure it’s different between the modes… If I remember correct : Arcade : 0.8x. Realistic : 1.25 and Simulator : 1.5 or something like that, they are really different in RP gain, just can’t remember exactly the rates for them. But yes, the crew XP is also different, tend to get more for the time you play the current vehicle in that slot
That much is true, but in Arcade you can also see the enemy constantly as well, and seeing the enemy alone gives you score, 5 score per 10 seconds or something… I remember my squadron mention this while in a squadron battle once. Then there is the hits you take and give, destruction of enemy vehicle, you being destroyed, yeah… Lots of variables in that area
Large maps does not equal long range engagement maps.
Anyhow I’m always learning how there is a silent majority of player who likes small maps and they are not on the forum. An the Guys asking for larger maps are loud minority… can someone point at the source of such claim ?
On Reddit, I’ve seen that there is a roughly 50/50 split between players wanting large maps, and the players who want small ones. The people who want maps larger than what we have now, are in the minority.
The common thing that everyone would agree with is that Gaijins map design is bad, but not everyone agrees on how it can be fixed.
I created a new section titled, new maps urgently needed, perhaps the addition of newer maps instead of playing the same maps for more than 8 years will bring new flavor to the game. Implementing lager maps with longer ranges as you mentioned Sini, would actually allow for more flanking maneuvers, increasing strategic level thinking and combined effort approach.
That is what I would like to see, the developers have added a lot of new - vehicles fantastic. But perhaps they should at least once a year focus on an update that is specifically geared towards map designs.
As far as I know, liking (or disliking) a map doesn’t actually “do” anything besides being used by Gaijin to maybe adjust it’s appearance rate in rotation a little, on a global scale. So blaming players for the CQC maps appearing all the time isn’t really needed, blame the snail instead ;)
Hard nope from me - 9.3 and higher, 8.0 still has a fair number of vehicles that don’t perform very well on those kinds of ranges. Ideally there’s an intermediate type map that can be used. And ideally designed properly so that yes it’s maybe a big map but there’s options for the CQC lovers as well.
People don’t -want- to play like that (well, the majority I guess) but since Gaijin seems unable to actually design a map where this doesn’t happen, and has stated in the past that spawncamping is perfectly okay in their book, it’s done a lot because hey, that’s how you win the match.
But keep in mind that people in general tend to scream about spawn camping only when it’s being done to them; when they’re doing it to someone else, you rarely hear anything ;)
Oh sweet summer child…
Complaints about map design, map size, removal of any and all half-decent sneaky spots, removal of any sort of high ground, etc. have been ongoing for more than a decade. The snail does what the snail does…
This much is known, and it sucks that it works that way as well. It would be neat that it was “Player” sided likes that decided what the “Player” got as maps and not an overall like to dislike ratio. Just my opinion on that portion :/
I highly disagree here, I believe that vehicles with LRF’s can easily sit at a range and snipe with minimal damage to themselves, tho 3km for anything lower than 9.3 I can agree on a bit (Yes, I know… Going back on my words, how hypocritical of me), still, it highly depends on the vehicles ammo type and what it can pen at ranges, and what the armor values are for the enemy vehicles in question. Such as having a T-62 vs an M60A3 TTS at 3km range fight will be fun to play regardless of armor.
I get that people are too narrow to figure out how to actually be good at a game and wants to spawn camp more than actually having fun, like some people wants to do, I tend to want fun over short battles, I would rather have a sniping duel with a T-34-57 against a Tiger H1 than having the Tiger H1 in my spawn killing my entire team any day of the week, and if given the option to wait for 20 minutes to get a match I enjoy, I would happily wait 20 minutes instead of having short boring matches.
That being said, I do think people have the wrong mindset when it comes to War Thunder and I think maps should change big time, no more red zones inside of the maps (I can understand why outside of the maps), I don’t think I wanna touch Ground RB again anytime soon, unless we get some changes to Ground RB overall… I am gonna rather spend more time in Air SB and Ground SB since there are less spawn camping there and people actually try to play the matches and objectives there. Goes to show how bad Ground RB has become honestly
It is what it is, either bring a SAM and a book to grief flyers, or bite the crewlock and gamble again in 9 minutes that the map rotation actually changed. Alternatively, since your flyer slot isn’t going to be locked, go for a little match of ARB at a fun tier to pass time.
A real actual solution I’d wish to see Gaijin at least consider, would be changing the map filter from exclusion to inclusion so that you every player can get to play what they want to play. Excluding 5-ish maps, only one of which you actually won’t see if you have premium, only amounts to under 10% of the map pool. Said map pool being saturated with close range maps, it’s just not enough.
Whereas a filter that lets you target what you want to play on, 10% of the map pool is suddenly plenty enough to choose something that you will actually like.
Sure large maps enthusiast will spend longer in the queue, but to me it beats being thrown within seconds into ten matches in a row that will all result in crewlock…
