High tier battles are currently impossible to play!

Seems you are also sort of fed up with the instant spawn camp crap that most players seems to wanna play :/

It sucks cause I have had several chats with people I play with sometimes and we come up with some rather interesting idea, tell me what you think about this one :

Let’s take the Sinai map (Air SB version), tanks spawn near the airfields and has to travel to several sectors of the map, capturing points to get bases (Giving enemy planes a reason to bomb bases), each sector is a detailed tank battle zone where both teams could potentially meet up and have a fight. Sure the drive will be long, boring and excruciating overall but once we get the fight it will be enjoyable (Also these bases allows for tanks to respawn there), there will be about 10 capture zones (Like you see on Port Morseby) and it will give you SP for each cap zone, this will also give helicopters a good role in combat as well, given the range, capture zone type and location of the map helicopters would be useful to help out teams winning the fight instead of being annoying. Once 2 tank teams meet up (Enemy and Friendly) there will be a fight, whoever wins has a new placement for a base where they now get a new spawn location to be at (if it is further than 5km away from a base) this would not also be engaging but it would be a true simulator type battle, giving not just 1 research line a good option to research more, but all of them, some of our ideas also involve having Bluewater ships being artillery for friendlies as well, sitting in a section of the map and when a teammate calls in artillery the battleship or cruiser can aim the guns to that location and launch a barrage there.

As for how this would be doable at least idk, I think it depends on the type of players we have in the game, and I do think this is what World War Mode should’ve been tho. I have mentioned several variants of what we could’ve had in WT on War Thunder facebook groups just to see what people think and some come up with their own ideas on how to change aspects of these conversations, it’s interesting isn’t it?

This. So much this. I don’t give a rat’s ass about sitting in the queue for 4 minutes or so if it means I get to play a map I like. But the snail, the snail thinks if the queue time isn’t short the attention-span lacking players will revolt. Or something.

That’s exactly along the lines of what I’ve been thinking - although I can already see how balancing that so it’s considered “fair” by both sides would be the largest pain in the behind…

There’s much more people on Reddit than there are on the forums, so it can be a better representation of the player base.

Also, I am not against large maps, but I believe that Gaijin is unable to design good ones, and that cqc is inevitable no matter what.

I want better maps, not larger ones.

Trust me, the struggle is the same in RB.
Bad mapdesigns, that encourage, sometimes force spawncamping.
Urban maps, where you drive 2 minutes to get sideshoted by someone already
camping behind a building, just waiting there with every adwantage in the world.
Also urban maps with silent vehicles, because the sound system barely functions,
witch in a PvP game is one of the most essential things.
Kinda funny (in a bad way) when you hear your teammates vehicle through an entire city block, 400m away, but can’t hear an enemy vehicle 30m away with a clear line of sight to it.
…or a SUBSONIC plane approaching at max engine power.
I miss the old WT with the protected spawn zones, the opposing team can’t enter.

This point about already having large maps, kind of invalidated by having
Alaska, Sweden and the rest of the urban maps.
The engagement distance there is mostly below 100m.
Absolutely unsuited for tank on tank combat. (At least IRL, but i detest in in game too.)

Reddit isn’t a “healthy” place to be visiting, to put it lightly. Better avoid it.

Better mapdesigns are needed for sure, but i think at this point, te current set of devs
responsible for such maps are just plainly and simply needs to be “switly relocated
to some other jobs”. They may be competent at something else in life.
But certainly not at designing maps, that they never really test.

There should be CQC on a large map, but it should be a choice people make. Big Tunisia before it got screwed was a decent example; CQC in the town, some CQC in the A cap, mid range engagements throughout, and some action for the snipeybois that would force you to actually consider your route to get somewhere instead of just going W pew pew.

It was also really the only large map that was decent. And then they screwed it.

But if they’d bring it back and design some more like that… that’d be very nice.

Around COVID I took part with a group of player from my national community in quite a few reconstitution battles where there’d be a given conflict taken as inspiration for scenario that would determine the vehicles we’d use (within the confines of WT, so if one side had MLRS the Type 75 would be the only available option), which were usually conducted on repurposed EC maps, and it was not too dissimilar to what you describe with homebrew objectives and rules that would give a bit more depth to WT.
We had an Iran-Irak one that is the most memorable to me, where our first engagement was by a group of BMPs on a hills 3 kilometers away from us. One of the member even made videos of these events afterward, those games usually ran for about 40 minutes for a simple attack-defense type we had for the Iran-Irak scenario.

Kind of what I would love to see as Ground RB honestly, it’s more fun, more engaging and takes a lot more time to conclude the battle. Not like we currently have Ground RB, spawn in, drive for 30 seconds, get shot out, respawn and get shot out while still in spawn lmao… Can’t believe people don’t understand what we want honelty.

This is actually the best example, there is another map that is a decent example :

This is Second Battle of El Alamein (SB Version) and should be put into rotation for Ground RB, as you sadly only see this map at 6.0 in SB… Which I find to be really stupid because it’s a good map for 9.0 and up

Exactly - that SB version should actually be in RB as well - goes for most of the SB maps to be honest, arcade can have the quick action shooty shooty W pew pew maps, RB/SB should have … well… realistic maps.

I love whenever I get the section between like… H1-E6 already. Getting the rest of the map sounds like it’d probably cater to everyone’s interests quite well (B giving CQC, C giving middle ground, A giving hull down shooting).

The sim Tunisia map they put in RB rotation was a lot like this; you had a little bit for everyone to enjoy. Even CAS wasn’t such a big issue because given the size of the map, they couldn’t just fish-in-a-barrel everyone and CAS was basically getting clapped at an appropriate ratio to not be the nuisance it is on smaller maps.

But then they “fixed” it, because, well, to be fair I have no idea why. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a proper explanation as to why it needed fixing to begin with, or why it was basically flattened into being a really boring yet-another-defined-path map.

Gaijin will not go for this, mind you, because doing that equals admitting they may just have been wrong; and that just won’t work out. Gaijin’s management is very good at that old “I reject your reality, and substitute my own” trope.

How do you expect the maps to be big if in Tunisia 80% of the map is empty? There are very few players in the game and those who do run to the objectives, thus creating confrontations over short distances.

Brother, most tank battles in WW2 took place in the middle of nowhere, mostly because germany had stationed some tanks in the middle of nowhere, many cases city warfare happens yes. But this isn’t about that, this is about the maps being far too small for APFSDS combat and can easily spawn camp within 2.5km ranges (Yes with the map being completely flat with nothing to cover the spawns), this where I am annoyed because this is most small to medium maps, they are flat or have an open spawn allowing either the enemy or your team to just take a flank route and sit there grabbing huge amounts of kills with next to no effort.

Another point is the map Eastern Europe, small town, hold “W” for no joke 2 minutes and you are in the enemy spawn… This is what I wanna change and for good reason, I would like there to be a 10 minute gap between each spawn and not 2 minutes. Another factor is that SB maps tends to be a lot more enjoyable to play, but it sucks cause you only get the top tier maps in low tier battles and low tier maps for high tier battles, this should also change in my opinion of course :)
