Please edit the parameters of the modern active radar homing seekers to be more effective against low flying targets in top-down situations; against targets that are not using countermeasures or any making any maneuvers. Also, I find that the aim120A and r77 are more effective in a dogfight than the aim9m or r73. I think that the “Angle of Attack” limits on the r73 are too high causing instability and “spin outs” which make these weapons feel useless. On the f16 and mig29 I no longer enjoy close end Infrared Missile fights. They are too inconsistent as the aim9m “radius” is terrible, but if it can track; it is supremely effective against maneuvering targets in rear aspect even against countermeasures. Then we have the current r73, but its terrible when it comes to stability; it cannot maintain “slow speed turns” and high “angle of attacks” without spinning out; this really disappoints me. The r73 was the first commonly used “High Off Boresight Weapon” with “helmet mounted targeting systems,” it was an excellent dogfight tool. Currently this is not the case, the r73 spins out too often, and it usually flies side to side. From my unprofessional standpoint, I think the flight control system on the r73 needs tuned in this way: “at low speeds reduce the maximum allowed angle of attack” and at high speeds increase the rate that the missile increases its “angle of attack” to make it more lethal. I think there are a lot of old generation infrared dogfight missiles that are soooooo underwhelming. The AAM-3, the r73, the magic, the aim9m/L, the magic 1 and 2, and pl7 old generation variants and beyond. Please tune the dogfight missiles. HUGE THANKS TO THE DEVELOPER TEAM FOR PROVIDING OUR USERBASE WITH A FREE PRODUCT WITH THOUSANDS OF HIGHLY DETAILED VEHICLES FOR MORE THAN A DECADE! THE RECENT CHANGES TO SOME RADAR MISSILES WAS FANTASTIC! IVE BEEN HAVING SO MUCH FUN USING THE MIG29SMT! THE MIG29 IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLANE NOW THAT IT REALLY DOES FEEL LETHAL IN A DOGFIGHT WITH R77S! THANKS FOR LISTENING TO THE COMMUNITY AND HAPPY TRAILS TO EVERYONE! I HOPE THE R73 FIX IS DONE FAST AND EASY, HUGE THANKS TO THE DEV TEAMS, YOU GUYS MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!
They have stated on their twitter(?) that IR missile reworks are next on the list, we got lots to hope for.
Yeah because you are comparing 2000s missiles to 1980s ones. We don’t have a IR missile generation matching the top radar missiles
this is factually incorrect (the missile ages are all over the place ranging from 1970 to like 2020), and we do have IR missiles matching the radar missiles ingame, granted ground launched but we can still compare and the updated radar missiles outpull these easily
imo the buffs to radar missiles were overdone
the best IR missiles most nations get being from 1982 (AIM-9M) is probably why.
I do forsee the meta at top tier being ASRAAM and its IIR peers rather than the newer BVRAAMs post 120D
I dread the day IIRs get added
I look forward to it. I dislike using radars, just ask @Beeschurger i drive him insane with my intentional avoidance of using radars.
point and shoot with IIR will be brutal but glorious

I finally understand why my English teacher made us ident every paragraph.
yeah I do not
will be giga unflarable lmao
unless you can preflare and have a shitton of CMs
Yep
I genuinely never read anything that large without indents or punctuation

Uhh, I ain’t reading allat, but I agree IR missiles are long overdue for a buff. Lock range and flare resistance are both underperforming across the board. iirc, Aim-9Ls should be able to lock planes front-aspect from 8 miles out, yet it doesn’t even get that kinda lock rear-aspect.
I watched a MiG-25 flare off my Python-3, with full AB, without even let alone pre-flaring a few days ago.
Harrier GR.9a with 4 BOL pods and 6 ASRAAMs will be peak
God no lol
it gets HMD and ASRAAMs, thats all thats gonna be needed to take down a F-22 early which will get 9M and 120D at best lol
You do realize that if one nation gets something like ASRAAM, everyone else gets an equivalent right?
That is exactly why we need Next Gen IR missiles already. The seekers on R-73 and 9M are pathetically ancient with very basic IRCCM and they are old missiles of the 80s
yes. but an early F-22 i doubt will get 9X. id bet thats saved for a “late” with HMD higher in BR
F-22 and Su-57 with old 80s missiles is a joke
