Or you understand at this point that the first important decision to successfully use Helicopter is when to spawn it. And against which nation.
The following applies especially to 12.0 and above:
One reason the KA 52 is so strong is because it has a SPAA backup from Pantsirs. If the Pantsir is near them, it will usually not be attacked by CAP. In addition, Russia likes to have a lot of jets in the air, busy with anything that could be dangerous to you.
Other helicopters cannot pose a threat to it because it has a greater range. (Of course it can surprise you, but with my PARS I have to get 3km closer than it.)
Of course, the tactic also works if you are matched with Russia. Then you even have the ace of the EF2000 up your sleeve in Germany, which can shake up the opposing SPAA and CAP.
If you play against the USA and Russia, keep the helicopter on the ground.
If you play with one of them, you have to assess the situation. If you can get into the helicopter very early, you can get a few kills, but you have to be prepared that the kill report alone will cause the jets to come looking for you in the middle of the game. And then if you hover at medium height, then they’ll get you too.
Sometimes you can consider spawning towards the end of the game. Less SPAA, fewer jets, but also fewer enemy tanks, which are harder to find between the wrecks or even be able to shoot at with FnFs if they are standing next to them.
This happens to me often, so my KDR isn’t great either.
(Which doesn’t really matter to me.)
I’ve only played it 14 matches, but I quickly realized that it was really useful with the S-24 rockets. Have you tried those?
So far I’ve flown quite low, gained altitude for targeted shots from a distance of 2-3 km with the Falanga and then (of the 19 kills, at least 5) took out enemy SPAA with the S-24.
With a little practice this will definitely get better. However, the style of play is significantly different than with the German helicopters, with which you always play hiding behind the tree lines.
Yeah, Pretty much only the Strela can lock helis beyond 3-3.5km the others. why that godforsaken fat hind needed to get within 1.8km before my ozelot could lock n’ send it’s stinger gonna irk me forever
