I wish we had more content creators on YouTube talking about this. Someone to really bring attention to the issue. There are a few out there but not enough for the game director and devs to figure out that more people would play helis if the gameplay wasn’t neglected. I mean this isn’t a request for a specific vehicle or tech tree. It’s relevant to every tech tree and all 108 helicopters.
this.
They became more useless than before, the only ones being good were the top dogs FnF Launchers, if you are grinding a Mi24 or anything with rockets or cannons good luck. Oh and good luck too with manually guided ATGMS since they added new SAMs to counter the new CAS but the new antiaris completely deny any way of gameplay to non-atgm and non-FnF Carriers. and on TOP of that remember that now most light tanks have air tracking so they dont even need a spaa to shoot you down, the moment i try to get close to use the only ordinance i have (Rockets on my 9.7 Mi24P) i will get destroyed in mere seconds by a random light tank like an BMP2 or whatever
Maybe they could get some separate BRs? no idea how Gaijin could fix this (they wont lol)
People in this community are predominantly anti cas because they only play tanks, so they will never push Gaijin to actually balance things out, they want helos and cas in general to be nerfed to the ground, and at the most popular BRs they mostly have been.
All helos are spaa and plane food except for the absolute top br, and fixed wing cas is mostly uselss above 7.3, only useful around 10.0 to 11.3, and at top tier being completely ruined by the insane powercreep of the SAM systems and now free Pantsirs everywhere…
Also… I would like to voice the ever growing annoyance over ever growing number of FnF ATGMs slingers (the Spike platforms and alike) because, as a helicopter, you have no counter play. Only hope is to see in time, land ASAP and pray the damage is not too severe and game logic allowed you to repair
There are 2 main problems with helis right now.
The first is that the balance is so binary it feeds into the conformation bias. Bad helis are so bad noone plays them unless they’re going for a challenge, and with RP from tanks you don’t even have people suffering through them to get the next one. This means that people pretty much only play good helis so people only die to them.
The second is that it just takes so long to get the mods while helis are practical useless in their stock state. By the time you actually face an AH-1W player with the mods to make it viable they’ve likely already put several hours of practice in in EC (or they’ve GEed it)
There’s also a 3rd lesser problem where ground players don’t see when a heli missies only when they hit; An AH-64 7.99km away may seem really powerful but they didn’t see the last 5 missiles that missed due to blocked LOS on the target or having to disengage due to AA.
Ground only players love to believe that all CAS is point and click and all the players are dumber than them, but any non FnF or under BRed heli is really some of the hardest gameplay the game has to offer imo.
There are very few free kills you can get unlike most other vehicles where you can eventually get lucky and have people end up Infront of you.
Honestly my least favourite thing about warthunders online community is that seemingly noone wants a better game for everyone, they just want a worse game for their enemies.
let see you hit a moving helicopter with your puny mg in 1km above the ground
bvvd MG-ed a heli down in the infantry stream himself last time :DDD
guess helis are again distant support only in that mode
Meh.
the video’s giving average moment for a chopper who should be ‘steath’ and it isn’t (Issue with F117)
The only one you ‘perform well’ with it, it’s the Mi28 ( not a surprise ). You can have some ‘fun’, they’re less useful than planes and with the spawn of SPAA.
No, not true.
picked clips and you didn’t even get a kill in almost half of them
grim
Plugs own video as a gotcha
Does only ok
Thread was made when we didn’t have new gen helis with proper fnf weapons
Your gameplay is basically kamikaze. Just flying in without thinking, risking nothing, playing purely on luck.
Yes, sometimes you’ll run into defenseless SPAA, shoot it, get a two-frag, and that’s it.
No tactics.
No skill.
No earned positioning.
You just see a target, press a button, and shoot. That’s dumb gameplay.
I don’t know what you’re proud of, but the way you play is noob-level.
If you want, I can point you to someone who actually plays like a professional — someone who really knows how to use unguided rockets properly.
Team wins 75% of the time when i CAS at beginning of the match.
It’s because my team can move forward and enemy teams panics. They look up screaming air alert 🤣
And the USA should use CAS doctrine as priority, its what they focus on.
Why u think USA has so many Helicopters and planes?
I recommend everyone have a look at statshark.
Most 13.0 Helis need to go up in BR or be balanced in someway (data is biased due to only sweats playing top tier helis ie Mi28NM,AH64Es, Z-10ME.
Some need to go down a BR step too, AB 205 A-1 (could honestly be 7.0 its so bad) , AH-1Gs, Japanese UH1B, H34, HKPC3 ect…
The most telling stat in my view is kills / death… That stat seems to be correlated directly to the type of munition used.
In short, the usefulness of the helicopter is totally dependent on whether or not the munition is self-guided or not.
Any radar assisted SPAA has a huge advantage over units without that type of munition in several ways, the biggest in my view being the target acquisition. You simply stare into the sky, and the game paints a big green bullseye on your target.
I think the helicopter is sitting astride both ends of the spectrum when it comes to usefulness…Self-guided munition and the things are simply too good, manual guidance and they really kind of suck and could use some help.
Updates to the game to make the maps randomized to include more terrain features might be helpful for the manual guidance group as well as adjustments to the big green X radar assisted SPAA’s.
Some top-tier helicopters like the UHT, Tiger HAD, UH-60 and the AH-129 are quite literally useless at top tier. IR SAMs were a mistake; the “universal bump to 13.0 regardless of capabilities” all because they had access to FnF was a mistake. The German and French UHT can go as low as 12.0 and the rest can happily sit at 12.3. There is no reason for them to 13.0.
The blackhawk has always been a punching bag, the Israeli one is ok because of spikes but the US one should not be the BR it is.
The thing is, people who don’t play helis don’t seem to understand it. I had someone fully seriously telling me it would take over a a dozen 23mm to take one down.
