Helicopters being useless

With the introduction of the new SAM systems, helicopters became borderline useless. They were bad before, yes but now you can’t do anything because everybody has FnF anti-air weapons and most maps are open fields so there’s no cover.

I suggest the introduction of more FnF missiles for helicopters E.g AGM-114L, JAGM, More versions of Spikes, etc. They can just be shot out of the sky anyways

They were mostly useless for quite a while now, but this update made that worse

You know, helicopters are basically immune to amrams if they hover in place, right? same with vtol aircraft to a degree

Nice. The SLAMRAAM can’t engage it then. What about the IRIS-T SLM?

Hardly even and most maps are super flat

I feel like they kinda deserve it after years of being broken.Next update should just crucify every heli user.

Not all Helis have performed well though. Only specific ones with FnF capabilities (Eurocopter), and ones that can negate smoke and most missiles sent its way (KA-52). AH-1Z, AH-64D, British Apaches, etc have to manually guide, and are therefore sitting ducks.

This is the problematic way of thinking. Just because something was unbalanced doesn’t mean that the next update another nation or vehicle type should be unbalanced. Eye for an eye makes the world go blind. Unfortunately, gaijin seems to think this way or they just can’t get their game right

that why i see people just use the helicopter as tank and snipe the enemy or just use the spawn and send the missles.

Gaijin just doesnt play their game thats the issue. Making helis balanced would require better maps which will never happen. I am just goofing around to try to cope. As long as we don’t get hills outside the battlefield helis will never work

We need an updated Heli PvE or a decent heli mode, so we don’t even need to use helis in ground. That would fix most of the problem. Hell, when I play ground RB, 90% of my CAS deaths are from planes. I rarely ever die to helis because they get swatted as soon as they show up or they just sit over their helipad and get downed by SPAA or planes.

But playing helicopters in ground mode is half the fun, if not more, about helicopters in general. It’s unique to play against intelligent and unpredictable enemy SPAA and tanks. To that end, I don’t think the hope of competent helicopters in high tier GRB should be given up on. I do agree that Heli EC needs major improvements and fixes, though.

Helicopters in ground CAN be fun but it’s extremely situational. I know its subjective, but the amount of frustration outweighs the fun to the point where it’s almost redundant. I look at a lot of other games with helicopter gameplay in them and think “Man, I wish I could do this stuff in War Thunder”. We just need a dynamic helicopter game mode that rewards players based off of skill and not by how many ATGMs they can sling.
