Hawk 200 RDA, A sad vehicle, dead on arrival, in need of change

the experience with the hawk 200 RDA as it stands is not an enjoyable one, starting off with the stock grind, which is where a lot of the issues are, you are met with an absolutely terrible experience where you start with just 2 aim9L, and no gun to follow up, while facing f18s and other infinitely more capable aircraft, an average battle when bone stock will go as follows, wait a long time to get into the battle, once you have reached the battlefield, fire 2 aim9LS at those few players who remain, there’s a highly likely chance that both will be flared, and then once you have fired both missiles you are now left completely defenceless, slow and vulnerable, forced to return to the air base.

Its issues
this experience doesn’t seem fun in the slightest, and there are plenty of other issues which i see need to be addressed, like its turn performance, when attempting to reverse players who are pursuing you, which is highly common in such a slow aircraft, you may think that deploying your flaps to slow down quicker may be the best option, however, the threshold at which the flaps are allowed to deploy, due to the automatic limiter, are limited all the way down to 410km/h which makes it extremely hard to loose speed quickly paired with its rather ineffective air brake, in many situations this has left the plane in an extremely vulnerable situation, and even after you have reverse them, you cant follow it up with the gun, as it well… simply doesn’t have one…, another issue would be with the sky flashes them selves, as this aircraft is much slower than all over platforms who have received this missile previously, its energy is considerably lower, compared to even other aircraft at its same BR (such as the Ja37C), now you may have the argument “its perfectly fine at its BR as it has Skyflash at 11.3” but this isn’t the point, its how easily it can be countered due to all that was mentioned above, said shortly, its extremely vulnerable due to its low subsonic average speed of around 800-900km/h in realistic scenarios.

The solution
first of all I’m going to start off with increasing the max speed at which the flaps are allowed to be deployed at, since 410km/h is extremely low paired with its brick-like flight model at low speed (also quick sidenote is this thing really supposed to be this brick-like to fly? it seems off, handles like an underpowered harrier 1) other problems which could be fixed are maybe allowing it to have its external gun pod, as images of it having it exist, while not of this particular airframe, given the benefit of the doubt it can most likely carry it, even if it meant changing the aircraft airframe to that of a production variant(will never happen as gaijin will probably make this a premium or at least separate aircraft).
Edit: giving it Skyflash SUPERTEMP may also solve issues it has with energy due to low launch speed.

the moving it to 11.0 issue
11.0 while this may sound a bit rash, and would be a first for this type of missile and radar combo, this moves it out of the range of aircraft such as the f18 and f16, which are hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby level threats against this aircraft, now you may think “4 aim9Ls and 2 Skyflashes plus a PD radar is way too good for 11.0!”, please consider the lack of energy these missiles have being launched at 600-800 km/h, and the fact that this thing literally doesn’t have a gun, if the missiles fail it which is highly likely given the majority of aircraft even at 10.0+ have flares, now I’m going to leave this one up for debate as I see it as possible, however I wouldn’t want to ruin the 10.0 experience.

This is a limitation tied to the IRL characteristics.

Gaijin still hasn’t resolved the issue of the sustained curve rate being almost 30% worse, has it? I hope it gets fixed soon. I don’t intend to play with the Hawks 200 until this is fixed, even though I already own both pairs. (Community Bug Reporting System) This bug was reported while the Dev server was still live; it’s strange that they haven’t fixed it yet, even after the update.

as usual britain gets crap while the gaijinoids couldnt help but give russia another game breaking op jack of all trades premium…

So can anyone tell me HOW TO SPADE THIS??!!
Any supersonic when they see a “hawk”:

  • “Wow what’s that”
  • *Take a closer look
  • *Kill with their cannons

That’s what happens when i havent even seen a ai target. To spade through A2G i need to bring bombs(no cannon), but become a brick at the same time.
Killed 3 ai targets(and 0 player kill), in 5 games, in total.

Some vehicles should be just skipped, like Chinese F-104G and F-8E(FN).

Mental health is more worthy

Unfortunately you literally just have to suffer, i found it easiest to use the 2x aim9Ls on AIs and then attempt to RTB, took me 4.5hrs to get the skyflash for it, and after that it does improve although they can still be avoided by manuevering if fired from above 3km frontally.

This is just a bad mentallity to have, the hawk 200 RDA is one of the most anticipated non top tier vehicles britain has wanted for years, we should have the right to complain when its implemented so poorly.

Best complain - low player owning statistic, especially in compare to Hawk 200 at lower BR with guns

Also it should be noted that both share some issues, like the turn rate being 30% lower than was shown by a bug report which was accepted while the dev server was open.

The low player owning statistic doesn’t mean much considering the pool of data they have is large anyway, also its just been released so theres more focus on it.

Gaijin is simply delaying fixing this.

Aren’t you so happy they gave the gunpod to the premium slop model for a subnation in Japan!!! Out of touch aircraft, 11.3 with performance that would genuinely be awful even if it went down to 10.7 with its cannon armed brother. As a pilot who’s been playing since 2017 and has touched pretty much every aircraft type in game, I truly believe the Hawk 200 RDA to have been the absolute worst aircraft I have ever had the displeasure of flying. An aircraft with ZERO tricks up its sleeves and nothing but caveats. AVOID THE HAWK 200 RDA ENTIRELY

That version doesnt get skyflashes though

I know, however, skyflashes on a sub 600mph airframe are NOT very good. It’s currently the slowest BVR platform in game and they lose like half of the range… On top of that the F-16 based radar is certainly not fantastic either with capability on par or below the FGR.2/FG.1 or Viggen series.

the viggens have f16 radars dont they?

i disagree

I’d say theyre probably still good enough to be 2 free kills in headons

Certainly not, in most instances they are out energied by sharp turns from targets coming in at supersonic speed head on (most things are supersonic at this br), this is why i suggested the supertemp for it, as then it would atleast have a trump card, and would put it on par with the 11.3 viggen in terms of missile energy atleast, viggen still clears it.

Edit: wording change.

Exactly. They are still sparrows essentialy. So as long as you have enough speed (which everything else at this br should have) you can just barrel roll to avoid them.

Honestly, Hawk 200 unfortunately proved me right yet again… the time I saw a devblog on that thing I knew it’s not going to work in current Air RB environment at all. The 200 on 10.7 can somewhat work, you have two cannons, 9Ls and bunch of bombs, although my experience so far is just bad. I’ve managed to research Compressor and New Booseters and that’s about it, I don’t want to continue.

The avarage sotck match goes like this - you spawn - you fly for 5 minutes to the battlefield - you try to get some points by going after AI targets (ground/air) - you’ll get jumped by a guy who’s either returning from base bombing or hunts you down since you are the last from your team or first one they see - you go headon - you die (you get a kill or not). There is no point in fighting anyone since atleast in stock, you are a flying brick. That being said, I honestly don’t know if it’s just a poor stock performance, but the plane flight characteristics are so terrible, that I’d rather fly the Sea Harrier at any given point. I honestly don’t know where the narative about it’s manevuerability is coming from…

Anyway, the way I see it - the plane has nothing to offer in current Air RB matches, it has no place, no role, unless you consider a “cannon fodder” or “last stand headonist” as a roles. It’s just not fun at all.

I’d love the Hawks to be fun to play, I like small trainer jets, but unfortunately I see no way how that could be achieved. And since for me, it’s incredibely difficult to make the 200 work, I refuse to play the RDA completely. Maybe, when the next sale season drops, I’ll invest in GE, spade them out and use them in Ground RB, but currently I have to put them aside.

Dropping their BR, won’t solve anything and will only create issues for others facing them. Drop the BR a little too much and the weapons will become too powerful. It’s just a typical issue with low performance airframe being paired with high performance weaponary. It simply cannot be balanced/improved unless some major changes on how Air Realistic Battles function take place.

On the other hand, I had quite a fun experience with 200 in Arcade battles and I can definitely imagine, with enough time and dedication, it can be very easily spaded. The only issue for me here are the low rewards from Arcade Battles, making progess very slow.
Although with the RDA, I’m not sure if that would work aswell, since the guns are even more important in Arcade battles than in Realistic.

I don’t have the mindset that any vehicles should be skipped, since just from the point of what amount of resources has been put into modeling it and adding it into the game, you should atleast try it out as a player, but in this case… what can you do honestly.

The f8e fn isnt that bad. It’s just very either curbstomp or get stomped based on matchmaking
