That’s just untrue. If anything it’s notable that the devs seem to make sure we do consistently get more WWII stuff with each patch.
compared with the amount of top tier stuff its hardly matched. for every nation to get a ww2 vehicle you have to wait about a year and a half.
because otherwise events mostly make up for the addition of new ww2 vehicles. and I really despise gaijin for that
Absolute rubbish. If you don’t include new trees being added Germany is the only nation that gets some what regular ww2 vehicles. The skink for Britain was the first ww2 British tank added in something like 4 years for eg.
What if I like Gen’1 jets such as F-2 Sabre and Hunter F.1 but, Gaijin made them unplayable in AAB and ARB because of implementing of super sonic jets and AAMs? I need to leave from the game until Gaijin fix BR compression and matchmakers?
Yeah, some modern jets are actually fun but, was that really necessary in the game?
If Gaijin implemented a modern vehicle without breaking the existing one, it would not be a problem, but they could not even do that.
If they could not balance them, they should not have been implemented in the game.
Gameplay works. Counter Strike hasn’t changed in 20 years.
And the gameplay improvements over the last decade of War Thunder are what make me enjoy every game mode.
Alright, let’s take a look at all the WWII-and-earlier vehicles added in the past two-and-a-bit years (2022/23/24). I’m even excluding stuff that didn’t make it to completion until after the war (Battle-class destroyers, Centurion Mk 2, etc).

I too prefer the “older” vehicles and gameplay, but . . . all WT players like different things, so more variety is a good thing. I started 10 years ago when it was just planes, the addition of tanks was cool too tho. And I even had a blast playing Naval CBT. I still mainly fly, Air AB 4.3 - 4.7 mostly, because that is my “funzone” and where I do my Battle Pass tasks most of the time. Tanks I play AB as well 4.7 - 6.3 mostly, but sometimes as high as 7.7 - 8.3. Naval I play RB and enjoy the Bluewater more now, since I have gotten more big ships and I find that part more to my liking. From all that, you can figure I go up to early Cold War and that’s about it. I have a ton of the high tier stuff, just no desire to use it. I just don’t see the “game” part of BVR and automated weaponry . . . but that’s just me. Gaijin is a business, they need to earn money to keep the wheels turning. Modern stuff has been marketed hard, and added in a lot these past few years. It’s fine, it’s there for those that enjoy it and for those that are not as excited to play it, there is still a TON of other things to play. I don’t care what mode/Rank/BR others play . . do what is fun for you. If I find you on my team, I’ll help you as best I can, if you are on the red team . . Imma shoot you. . . . ez pz . . keep it simple. It’s a game . . . have fun. However that works for you
Modern tank lack soul
i also hate the way you have to play them. You have to sit back and wait till someone else gets bored and exposes themselves. Otherwise you get instantly snipped and spotted thanks to LRF and thermals
That would only be a fair comparison if you also listed the number of “modern” vehicles added in during the same time period. Going back say the last 10 major Updates and barring the Battle Pass vehicles, I think the numbers would speak for themselves. Many Updates only have 1 or 2 WW II era vehicles added in. And if you take away the “sub tree” additions(which are generally about 50/50 anyway) it’s not hard to see modern era vehicles have been a priority. Granted, a good deal of WW II era vehicles have already been added, but by no means has it been “fleshed out”. But again, I concede, it’s clearly a business decision. Marketing has clearly been towards a younger target group the past few years, and it’s safe to say they are less interested/knowledgeable with WW II era vehicles than with the more modern stuff, so it makes sense. But it’s by no means hard to see where the priorities lie
how many of these did gaijin put behind the event grind or for the regular players a paywall
A lot of the immersion sure has died but I don’t attribute that to modern vehicles as much as piling nations and sub trees with tons of copy paste into the game.
It was noticable with the addition of France awkwardly being lumped randomly into teams in Air RB and the decline accelerated hard with the addition of Sweden.
Hungary is the only sub-tree with heavy copy-paste.
That was bound to happen with multi-national trade agreements.
I think gaijin lost the plot when you see old facing modern
yea, honestly id rather had gaijin spend some time developing unique modifications or domestic vehicles for nations like Hungary and Finland since both are comparable in C&P
I have faith Gaijin will keep finding domestic vehicles to implement.
We got M60 120S last update, if that can be added, anything can.
there is also Finland which was bulk Ctrl C/V with a few aesthetic changes and special mention to Israel and China, though with China there was an attempt at maintaining standard Axis/Allies + West/East RB matchmaking.
Just over half of Finland is unique vehicles. Either in modification or from scratch.
Israel has very little copy paste surprisingly once you get looking.
After all, Magach 5 is as copy-paste of M48A2 as T-44 is copy-paste of T-34-85.
Lot of noticeable differences despite underlying similarities. And yes, T-44 is just a T-34-85 with its sides straightened hull roof lowered, and turret ring weakspot reduced.
I don’t like historical reenactments, largely cause my experience are the worst milsimmers in existence telling me no on realistic tactics that I wanted to do and soldiers have correctly done IRL.
So I much prefer the war games simulation that we are today over that.
Bare in mind I’m considering Air and Ground, as neat as Pimp my Centurion (and Patton) is, Israels air tree is also 90+% existing content from other trees and nothing quite sucks the immersion out of the game like flying a 109K and seeing an Isreali Spitfire on your team.
Most of Israel is unique vehicles.
Yeah, air has some copy-paste. You know what isn’t? It’s most iconic jets from A-4H, Ayit, Saar, Kfirs, Kurnass 2000… astonishingly good machines you cannot get elsewhere. Well, Saar is harder to use, but I like it.
Think of War Thunder was we’re playing war games like what real militaries do sometimes.
Yeah, you’ll see something on your team that isn’t you, but that’s what war games are about.
Leclercs vs Abrams, M60s facing each other. What War Thunder doesn’t have that real war games have is Abrams vs Abrams because USA practices against its own equipment.
We used to have things like that with “Preperation for military landing on Hokkaido”, which was set aside for US vs UK in Air RB. What we have now doesn’t really compare.
