Has matchmaking always been like this?

I’m just trying to get vehicles unlocked with some BP premium but keep seeing these same problems.

2 matches in a row where one team had 2 ships with a clear BR advantage, in the 2nd round I just 1DQed which i see as very negative but I’d rather waste time whinging about it on a forum rather than finishing an unfair match.

The good news is that it only costs me 1.7k to repair, which would have been over 30k if I’d taken less ammo, survived long enough to deplete it and jump out (another annoyance that’s emerged while trying to find optimal ammo levels, its not like tanks where you can take 10-20 rounds and get to a cap in a couple of minutes to reload in most cases)

I can only imagine how complex matchmaking algos are, but… but… there’s 2 people with top BR in the pool… … and you put them on the SAME team! just doesn’t make sense to me :)

or perhaps this is how it’s supposed to work?

It came out a while ago that war thunder uses an algo to feed positive matches to players who are likely to leave, and unfavorable ones spaced out by the occasional good march or two to those players who are unlikely to leave.

The system is actually designed to emotionally abuse it’s player base.

yeah navals just unbalanced slop i swear liteterally the balancing is dog water they got basically 8.7s like USS South dakota vs Richileu or roma or bismarck not fair even a little
theyll also just put like 2 Iowas and a soyuz against like few 8.3s and 1 8.7 yamato its so bad

The first time I noticed very unfair and unbalanced BR matches a year and a half ago. Last year in Naval was a total disaster and with half of a year with broken aim that we got no compensation or apology for.

I really am sick of that abuse with constant uptiers and uneven teams. The cake took a match where I was in almost stock 7.7 battleship, the only player on my team, against a dedicated squad of 4 with… 4x8.7 BR. Yes, I have a proof of that and you can find the post on this forum about it with screenshots. So many matches the enemy team is top BR heavy while my team is bottom BR heavy. There were so many times now that I was the only player with the lowest BR on both teams. What am I supposed to do in such situations? I just don’t trust this placeholder match maker, so I tend to hang out on the back, as at any moment gaijin can add a bunch of new players in the middle of the match, totally tipping the scales of the match. Everything is decided by the game, now even the crappy aim is RNG half of the time. Almost everything is out of my hands and it now feels like I’m spectating the game, not playing it. Why not just automate the game and let the AI duke it out?

that’s crazy if true, I get that uptiers are part of the system but didn’t suspect it would go this far.

gives me an image of that ‘why do you give me your toughest battles’ meme but instead of Jesus it’s the snail saying “because I know you have no life” or something

try it yourself, lose or leave a lot then youll notice you get down tiered and easy matches. just like if you go months without playing your first match will be a cake match.

no? i leave all the time, the only trends of uptiers or downtiers are what BR i play

youre just falling for confirmation bias

its not, bro is spouting mistruths on the internet, its at best a conspiracy theory

having friends who play is OP :) glad I’m not the only one who’s seeing this.

It looks like they had to nerf accuracy after introducing the current ammo destruction mechanics, so now main guns look goofy compared to the secondaries.

Personally I’d like the main guns to use ‘target pointing’ instead of my cursor so that I can use mouse look less, but maybe that’s too much work considering the modes popularity - but its chicken and egg, right now we’re the proto chickens waiting for some evolution (default controls are bad to the point of being an impediment IMO, they added long and double click recently and I don’t use it yet)

It a shame, I really do think the BR system is very good overall, but if matchmaking isn’t going to be fair then it spoils it.

iv been playing since 2013, i can tell you gaijin manipulates every aspect of the game including what you’ll receive for a daily login reward. nothing is random its all a algorithm.

without evidence I’m still considering up-tiers random, but when you talk about conspiracies you make me think of all the real world ones that are blatantly true, but let’s take the 5th on all that :)

its just called really low odds

if it were an algorithm it would be nicer than currently tbh

like what? birds being real?

AFAIK very few things in online games are truly random, for examples casinos use deterministic systems similar to how a Minecraft world is created from the seed, or there are things like how Bitcoin works too, which somehow manages to keep an average block time around 10 minutes across a massive network.

Taking daily rewards as an example: the game is not rolling dice every day, it just keeps track of your position in a pre-determined sequence of rewards based on your hashed player ID (or something, these systems are very real, but I’m not saying it’s actually how Gaijin do it, just a guess)

technically nothing on computers is random, computers just cant do that, they use seeds or time based numbers to “roll” a dice, but if often ends up being close enough that humans cant notice

calling it predetermined is probably kinda true, but it depends what it is seeded on, if it is player ID as you mention then yes it would be technically predetermined but saying it just keeps track of your position is a bit of a weird way to put it, moreso it just gives you what you were always going to get, the ‘roll’ is faked and you were likely always going to get that thing,

if its time based which was quite common but a bit less so these days then it would be more properly, not that youd ever notice really

I don’t think we can rule out manipulation, like getting 10% more up-tiers if your on premium or increase the chance if you have not played for a few days, etc, little things.

Think about how guard rails make AI systems go nuts, forcing them to deal with directed outcomes makes the probabilities wobble.

Equally they could just have really screwed up the logic because leaving everything truly random often doesn’t work out

I hadn’t considered something like TOTP instead of a derived(?) sequence, interesting idea, all this maths blows my mind

personally i think we can, because warthunder doesnt have enough players at any one time that they could reasonably afford that (afford as in have it without massively increasing queue times) plus 10% would be worthless

adding any number of things exponentially increases queue times

if they could afford that they would let premium accounts ban more than one map

i dont know if i would put it that way but yeah thats more likely

yeah but its not an AI, LLMs work in weird ways and the “guard rails” are about as effective as telling a toddler not to do something in most cases

its also entirely possible its both, I believe multiplying player tokens by time values is somewhat common for this type of thing, though i dont exactly make video games for a living, the best i did was some programming courses at uni

its the kind of thing they will likely never reveal, its fun to speculate about it tho :)
