Has anyone else noticed that the German cannons hardly cause any damage anymore?

This is about the 15mm, 20mm and 30mm cannons.

On the day of the big update a few weeks ago, I noticed that my cannons hardly do any damage anymore. At first I thought it was up to me. But I talked to several others about it and everyone had the same experience.

What I noticed:

  1. The damage if I hit another plane is minimal. It seems to me that the 7.62mm causes significantly more damage than the cannons. Sometimes they simply fly through the enemy without causing any damage. Even if I only fire with the HMI (M) (mine shell).

2.: It seems to me as if 2/3 of the projectiles fired are not modeled at all.
After several hours (probably 20 or more) of costum battles against AI opponents, I noticed this particularly strongly.

Even with targets that are very easy to hit, only a small proportion of the projectiles fired reach the target.

3.: The damage pattern…
For example, if I hit a bomber coming from above with my FW 190 and its 4x 20mm cannons in the wing, where the tanks are actually located, almost nothing happens. I see the bullets hitting, but the fuel in the tanks doesn’t catch fire. The wing is not destroyed even by several hits. It does have a few holes, but that’s about it.
The same with fighter planes. several 20mm hits and very little happens.
Unless you hit the engine exactly. Then a fire starts. But this can be quickly extinguished using the fire extinguishing system.

At that time I started trying out the US tech tree.

And even the .50 cal’s cause significantly more damage.

Then I looked at the P-51 with its 4x 20mm cannons. They should be significantly worse than the German 20mm.
But it doesn’t make sense. They are extremely superior to the German 20mm. Hardly any bullet drop. And the damage!!! One hit (even from 1km away) and the opponent is history.

Out of interest, I also looked at the German 15mm and 30mm cannons… And the damage isn’t true there either.

I’m assuming this is a bug that I’m reporting here.

Well, on aircraft the 15mm Mg 151/15 is missing shrapnell/spalling upon penetration and does barely any damage to modules, which is a joke, considdering that the H-Pzgr was a dedicated AT ammo, ONLY to be used againdt tanks and armored cars.

Ok, since this topic obviously only affects me to the full extent described, the only logical conclusion I draw from this is to stop playing the German tech tree for myself.
With all the love for German engineering, what Gaijin has done with it is just ridiculous.
I’m just thinking about how much better the German pilots must have been back then to have achieved these number of kills with such poor technology. They must have been true gods.

Since I’m not that kind of god and am not interested in rolling easy prey, I prefer to play the US tech tree and get some yaks from the sky. :)
Although you can’t talk about sky when those things are always mowing the lawn.

It’s getting more and more ridiculous…

I’m not having any issues with German cannons. I’ve been flying that “thing” known as the Sakeen and with the MG151’s I’m killing things fine. The thing is that German cannons now actually behave like cannons and not thermonuclear shell flingers like they used to be.

If we should be ranting about any cannon it’s the Shvak, it was historically a very weak 20mm as admitted by the Russians themselves and yet in game they feel comfortably the most powerful. It never ceases to amaze me how 1x 20mm Shvak with a quick snapshot can rip wings clean off.

If the single 12.7 mm should somehow fail to do that first. Seriously. Was out of cannon in a Yak-3 and a touch of the trigger ripped the wing off a bomber.

Yeah, like I said, I play US now. And man. It doesn’t matter, 12.7mm or 20mm of the US. All Mini Nukes…
