comet sure, but the AC 4 is very much better than the manpanther and is on par with the panther d. after all it has 2.5 times the reverse speed, nearly the same top speed, while having a nearly 2 second faster reload and 3 times the horizontal traverse speeds.
and the only reason the AC 4 isnt better than the panther d in EVERY regard is solely because the thing has an exposed driver hatch, and its inaccurate and should be a recessed driver’s hatch making it mostly better than the panther d.
This is definitely a hot take but I think there are only 2 appropriately BR’d KV-1s, the L-11 and the S. Everything else is undertiered. In non-downtiers? Sure, they’re fine. But play a downtier against them and see how genuinely egregious they are to shoot at. It’s like if everything people said about the Churchill VII was actually true except the KV has the mobility to do other things.
And while I’m at it, Churchill VII back to 4.7. No the thing never needed to go up. It was just Very Good. Anyone who called it braindead and was “disgusted” at how good it was only played it on its good maps. There are maybe, MAYBE, three maps in the map pool where the Churchill VII was overpowered, on everything else it ranged from “pretty solid” to “do not spawn this you are playing on volokolamsk”.
AC IV has similar hull armour and similar turret armour, but 1 less crew and no smoke.
Mobility is similar VK has a higher power-to-weight and top speed, but the AC IV has better reverse.
Even in firepower, sure, the AC IV has better depression/reload/turret traverse but the VK has APHE which is massively better. As proven by how much British winrates jumped when the QF 75mm finally got APHE.
the Panther’s APHE is like, fake APHE. there’s no filler in that which is why it’s such a good AT gun. Also the 17 pounder having sabot, despite it being early sabot, still evens that out because you get your high damage solid shot and your even faster sabot round for trickier shots (i.e. panther mantlet/tiger 2 turret face)
Yeah, so? The point is they’re equivalent at 5.0, also, the Panthers 75mm has the same explosive mass as the Panzer IV. Any kind of APHE is better than no APHE.
ya no, the AC 4 ON PAPER has similar hull armour, in actuality the angle of the plate on the ac4 is 62~66 degrees, while the panther d is 55, meaning the more armoured panther d has around 140mm vs the ac4’s ~120, this is before we angle (something you can do) which bumps up the front plate to 130mm.
while the vk has a higher top speed and hp/t, its 7km and .5. theyre so small its literally pointless and the only noticeable change will be the transmission, which we dont have any real way of tracking so we cant really argue about it.
finally the panthers aphe is 30grams of tnt, the shots that will one tap with the panther, will also 90% of the time will also be a one shot with the ac4, now the reason why the QF 75 got a boost with aphe, was solely because the solid shot for those guns dont have that great of post pen damage, something the 17 pounder doenst lack.
Actually this was really only a problem for the Churchill. The Valentine was facing much squishier things and the Cromwell had the mobility to get side shots. Don’t get me wrong, the winrate boost to APHE is definitely real, but the postpen was really only an issue with 1 of the tanks using the british 75
To be honest, it’s more like ~140mm from my experience. Though it’s definitely not ~120mm.
Nonetheless, most tanks at 5.0+ can UFP it if it’s unangled, assuming you’re within 300m.
Plus, rounds like BR-365 have such good angle pen, if I recall correctly, the UFP of the VK would effectively be ~90mm.
It all just depends on what reference shell you have selected, I simply selected the VK 3002’s own gun as it seems like the person I replied to used that shell too.
I personally haven’t struggled when facing the VK (other than at long range).
I don’t think it has enough armour to warrant a 5.3 BR, but I can understand how it could be a nuisance to 4.0 vehicles.
I’d say the Su-85M / KV-1C / KV-85 are slightly more potent in the right hands though.
I wasn’t in the game at the time, I just used a screenshot on Reddit so I can’t confirm what shell it was. Though that wasn’t my point, my point was Fizzy was clearly making a bad faith argument about how protected the VK’s hull is.
It’s clearly better protected than they were suggesting.
yes the panther d is superior, IN ARMOUR ALONE. dont mind the fact literally everything else of the AC 4 is either the same, nearly the same or better.
no, the panther d has an extra 20mm more than the ac4 (dead on) but only 10mm more angled, meaning the thinner vk, will be worse, this isnt a bad faith argument, i just didnt want to also view the vk, which we already know is weaker in the armour department of the panther d.
