I was playing the Mig-29SMT to grind out the Su-30SM cuz I didn’t want to stock grind the Su-27s, when I unlocked the JF-17 and switched straight to it… there is zero contest, the JF-17 is more enjoyable to play stock than the Mig-29SMT is spaded.
The lack of HMS is the only disadvantage it has, but you actually have the ability to put your nose on people so it’s not a massive issue

Thats like saying “well you know actually we could just slap AIM-120A on Eurofighters…” even though they only used B and C-5 variants.
Every single Russian top tier aircraft in game (except the non-ARH Su-27s and MiG-29) entered service before the R-77-1 and before any sort of ARH was adopted on any plane it’s been strictly R-27 until the R-77-1.
As far as I can tell, the continued implementation of these aircraft with the export R-77 is based solely around a balancing decision because Russia’s stats are decent enough to not need the extra help across the board by putting 77-1’s everywhere (thus needing to push BR’s up and create a void in 13.3 or 13.7) and keeping it to Su-30SM (and potentially Su-35)

They can carry them, that’s not being disputed. It’s the fact that Russia never used them in service. Like at all.

the JF-17 is also a really good and enjoyable jet to fly, but personally I preferred the SMT for it’s HMD, 30mm gun (believe it or not, you occasionally get to use it) and the higher diversity in it’s loadout.
They’re both great jets respective to their BRs.
As for a stock JF-17 being more enjoyable than a spaded SMT, I’d have to disagree.

-HMD
-Better radar
-Ability to carry more ARH or SARH missiles
-Speed
-More countermeasures (56x large, 60x Normal)
-Gun that isn’t a gsh 23
JF-17 advantages
- Better missiles (PL-12 and PL5EII are better suited to ARB than the R-77/R73/R27ER)
- Better flight performance
- Stronger RWR
- MAW

So I guess since we’re counting mockups now that means Su-33 should get Kh-41 despite it being well known that it’s radar was never updated to use it? Or I guess all the drama about Kh-38MT not existing (because it doesn’t) doesn’t matter since a mockup was on a plane?

imo, me who has every single russian aircraft in the tree, i would not give the r77-1 to the su27sm as it cannot do bvr as well as any other fighter due to its utter shit radar. but i would give it to the smt even to day as it is really good for bvr due to its horrid flight performance the further away it is from danger the better. also it has lots of counter measures and has my favourite radar in game. also it can support the r77-1 and the su27sm cannot.
Its just better to add a other aircraft such as su27sm3 and mig29kr and mig29m or even the the 35 but it will have a shity radar at its br
Agreed. The R-77 is the worst missile in game accounting for tier. They should at least add more R-27ETs if these planes are stuck with R-77s.
SM3 Is practically what we have currently in game.
The only thing keeping the current Su27SM from being an actual SM3 Is; R-77-1, a few tweaks on the visual model (such as correct placement for the R77s) and renamed radar to N001VP
