Rolands and the VEAK-40 we have now do almost nothing even at its lower BRs.
Also on some maps there are valleys/rivers that run along close to the airfield, and allow people to just dip inside and avoid any danger whatsoever. For low and high tier AA
You want to make the airfield camping even worse? Dipping behind mountains or in valleys would still stop higher tier AAs. As many people have said, you should only really land if you have made mistakes. There are flaws in that arguement sure, but as it stands, airfield AA is more than good enough and more people want it to be removed than buffed

Most matches don’t make it to the point where people are running out of ammunition or fuel. If you are landing for fuel, maybe you could have brought more. At the current time, running out of ammunition is more common as guns do jack sh** but normally you have the capability to kill people before they have the opportunity to kill you when landing. Could you have been more aware of your surroundings to ensure there would be nobody to kill you on the airfield? Could you have perhaps killed them before a situation in which you land and die occurs? Airfield AA doesn’t need to be improved. You take the risk when landing. Running to the airfield shouldn’t be a get out of jail free card.
This is usually a result of poor maps/airfield placement. Existing defenses are enough to deal with enemies who rush the af.

Well yeah, if you’re landing at an airfield then you SHOULD be vulnerable to getting killed, not be surrounded by an invulnerable protection bubble similar to bottom tier Flak AA.
The point of air rb is air to air battles, not shooting landed opponents, and so air to air battles should be incentivised by not letting you just shoot landed opponents.

But its not fair that I can fly fast enough and do some rolls and kill a poor dude who bombed a base and got a kill. It needs to be more effective, not more range. Its so easy to dodge that its pointless at this time. If your killing someone on the airfield it should be w/ a A2G munitions or a long range A2A Missile.

The AA isn’t 100% useless either, the VEAK 40s will literally tear you apart from a mile away even when you’re manoeuvring from sheer RnG, there’s still a risk in strafing airfields.

I think for the most part Airfield AA is fine, and you can bait the enemy pretty well.

This is really fucking stupid thing to say. What mistakes lmao, rearming and refueling are a vital part of the match given that you survive long enough where you need it.
genuinely wrong, especially at top tier the amount of missiles and countermeasures everywhere will mean that you will head back to airfield to rearm missiles or get more countermeasures, especially if you dont have BOL pods.
and give up your competitive edge over someone else in a dogfight due to being heavier and less able to turn. Especially with planes like phantoms where the low fuel performance means quite a lot.
dont disagree with this, but also keep in mind that at top tier, a 7km shitass roland is barely something you care about. The best way to utilize your airfield is to try and bait the enemy planes into dogfights near the airfield where they lose majority of their speed and can get easily intercepted via rolands or the proxy rounds.
Maybe for 13.7-14.0 matches they could upgrade the rolands to ADATS like there is in the test drive and call it a day.
Dont act like those really happen at top tier. Droptanks exist, and if you are using the only phantom that can face top toer, the ICE, your airframe isnt good enough to effectively dogfight anything better than a tornado, of which your fuel load doesnt matter

As for missiles, the average of 6 is more than enough to get multiple kills, and playing more passively rectifies the issues with jets that dont have as many missiles. Pick targets you are sure they can hit, and most of the low missile count jets are agile so push closer instead if an extended missile duel…
As I’ve said, you could bring more fuel, set up different buttons for flares and chaff, turn off maw, or change your playstyle. You shouldn’t really have to land often at top tier, and if you do, you should accept the risk that you get strafed.

Drop tanks can be ejected yes, at which point youre running low fuel, and once the dogfight is finished and youre low on fuel you go, guess what, back to the airfield to refuel. What a concept.
low fuel phantom can do somewhat well against things that arent rafales, typhoons or gripens lol. depends on situation. Sustain is dogshit but you can get lucky and sometimes win against things that compress hard.

Its kinda funny that youve mentioned Su33 because flankers have pretty good amount of flares and chaff (with Su33 being the outlier with 48), especially because of the fact they are single pop large countermeasures. Compared to stuff like Mig29s or F16As that run 60 CM with double linked pop, and youll end up with 15 pops together with a 50/50 flare-chaff split.

ive done so, but it gets somewhat pointless to differentiate between “is this an IR missile” or “is this a radar missile” when in furballs, its easier to just pop both. And before you comment no, playing passive is not always an option, depending on how your teams fight has gone you might find yourself in a position you didnt want to be in, like for example, you fighting multiple players at once, something you generally want to avoid.

“shouldnt” and “dont” are two very different fucking words. You also “shouldnt” have your missiles switch target off of a rear aspect fired upon afterburning plane, but in war thunder they do. So stop trying to act all smart like people shouldnt land on airfields because the mercury is in retrograde or whatever extremely vague statement youre using
I play the F16D with 4AHR, 2IR and drop tanks + min fuel. I stay hidden away and do dumb stuff most of the time, and because of how im with singled out enemies or alone against multiple, i end up dropping the tanks. After dropping them and winning a dogfight, im forced to return to the airfeild due to lack of fuel.
And that’s what it comes down too, less competitive airframes need to take a reduced fuel load if they want a competitive edge. AAA is way too weak at toptier for the airframes.
