Get rid of factions

Why are factions even a thing? It’s so random they might as well just get rid of it and make both teams 100% random, this would also help spread out notoriously bad teams (like top premium USA) and possibly help the constant uptiers since it’s usually caused by certain lines having different br lineups… maybe if anything go to more of a skill based system instead.

Do you actually have a reason or just the typical war thunder player that enjoys the current broken system?

I like that there is a mostly historical progression of nations vehicles so I can go from a pre ww2 tin can to the most modern MBT they have. The unique features and quirks of a certain nations vehicles is also a major reason why people are attracted to playing certain tech trees, a “no faction” layout removes such attraction from the game

War Thunder is too big for one pool of vehicles to work at all without making unlocking wanted vehicles an absolute nightmare which will scare off new players more than the game already does.

There is 2500+ vehicles in this game ranging from late ww1 designs to modern vehicles which haven’t even entered service yet, having one massive tech tree for every ground, air and vessel would be too big to fit into a UI and would be impossible to simplify in a way that even the most knowledgable of WT players to understand.

I also like that one nations tanks only fights with its own nations tanks in Realistic mode. Id hate both teams to both be the same as it would screw with friend or foe identification and would feel too WoT like

I too mistook their statement for this, but reading it again, they want all on all team matches, with no nations.

my answer would still be no. I want my tanks nation to be with its own. imaging how boring both teams just having tiger tanks would be

The only time I remember that they did what people called “Mix Battles” or Mix MM. Was on Mig21smt and mig21Bis era. These little thing where so good that gaijin add Flare only on F-4 first even though mig should be able to use flare pod dispensers… But the mig destroyed the phantom so hard that they implemented mix battles. The change was really good. These game were a lot more balance. And then in a month or so gaijin remove it… And intentionally bugged r-60 for like 6 month.

People in this game are weirdos that want to have the advantage over the enemy team. And come with excuse like “i only want to play with my nation”. And them come to the forum to post when enemy nations get a type of vehicle that their nations don’t have or produce.

We should vice versa get rid of mixed MM in air and naval RB

The exclusive negative to tech tree matchmaking is stacked tech trees [USA 2018 - 2022, Soviets 2022 - mid 2023].
That’s it, there’s no other downside.

They started doing more mixed battles after that. Whenever the US got a new toy, the mm would be clogged with 60%+ of the player base being in queue for US.

They had to add mixed battles so that the wait times were not like 4+minutes.

I want to say it was when the f4e got the aim7

Ewww mix battle sorry I don’t want that disgusting stuff
All better that thing should be gone for good from all mode only historical team system should be left allied vs axis and warsaw vs nato.

It doesn’t work anymore since nations use both allied and axis, WP and NATO stuff, TTs are too mixed for such MM and it’s pointless. Nations-based MM is more than enough imo at the point where we are now.
Historical MM should be left for SB or some separate mode.

that why i said it should be back like it is before

On the contrary, I think that the “factions” should actually be implemented as separate “layer” over the countries tech trees, especially for Sim.

There is currently the (constantly increasing) issue is that many countries have the same vehicles (F-16’s, F-104’s, F-4’s, F-5’s, various MiG’s and Su’s,…) that end up fighting “themselves” because of the countries.

Problem there obviosuly is that the tech trees are built up by putting nations together, that would be adversaries in real life, or at least be aligned to different blocs depending on era/decade. Prime example is of course the Chinese tree, with bot mainland China and Taiwan in, but also germany with Cold War adversaries BRD and DDR in the same tree, etc.

My wish: at least for Sim implement a faction system, where countries can only be opposed based on “blocks”/affiliations, and - within the tech trees - disabling vehicles from the blocks that are on the opposing side.

So for a East vs. West battle, germany could join on both sides, but with western aircraft only in one block, and eastern on the other.

Admittedly, this would be very complicated, and another way would be to simply get a system with specific vehicle setups in Sim Air, as in Sim Ground…

100% no !

Im seeing alot of “no” here but not any actual reasons…
Im for this because at least in RB or AB over powered russian equipment would have a chance of being on both teams.
Although I dont know too much on how the match maker works as more often than not whenever I play russia both teams have russia (yes, im talking about the flags at the top of the player lists in a battle), but whenever I play as any other nation Im always playing against russia.

This makes sense for Sim, but only for Sim.
The que for AB and RB would be greatly improved by removing any consideration of nation from the match maker.

Yeah, terrible idea, at least for lower ground RB tiers. If anything it should be extended to other modes more than it is.

The factional split introduces an interesting additional amount of variety game-to-game and rewards an advantage to people who have taken time to learn their vehicles and others and can react instinctively to seeing a hostile vehicle without thinking in many cases. If I know I’m facing Germany, I can expect a Puma rush, and have a good idea where they’ll show and when, so when they roll around the corner I’m ready and often they’re not. When I know I’m facing Russia, I know to expect ASU-57s lurking around and I’m primed to hear the lawnmower sound and one-up them. If I know I’m in the same side with either of those, maybe I plan my battle run out a little differently too. Etc. It rewards player knowledge and increases the variety. I’ve played every map hundreds of times now, I’ll take all the variety aspects the game can give me.

If anything I’d like nations to be segmented further. I was originally quite a fan of sub-trees like South Africa for the UK, but the direction of adding copy/paste vehicles to pad lineups is something I really don’t like as it takes away a lot of the identity of the original nation. Now Pandora’s box has been opened and I don’t see sub-trees changing any time soon.

If nations/sub-trees were split up further it would address both the copy/paste issue as well as ensuring there are enough “factions” per team to make sense logically. There would of course be issues with player numbers by doing things this way, but I think that could be alleviated by selecting different nations you’d be willing to play as during queue time, so that the matchmaker could pull from your selected pool of nations for balancing where necessary.
