Heavily map and team dependent; if played solo its mid to bad, if played with friend is bearable and can be fun.
To elaborate further:
Current 7.3/7.7 german lineup regarding researchable TT vehicles is pretty much straightforward, as in, there arent really that many choices.
Single medium with M48A2C (which gets smokes over its US and taiwan counterparts), and no less than three 20mm Rh202 armed vehicles - Marder A1- (gets TOWs), Luchs and Wiesel (both get DM63 AND thermals, IIRC lowest BR vehicles that get them).
Theres also the kanzerwagen, pardon, Panzerhaubitze 2000, whic is bane of my existence in that BR range since it was added.
So far so good, until you look into the nitty gritty details. Thats where the map and team dependency comes into play.
Single medium means no backup tank to fallback onto, unless you use backup or shill out for the KpzM47 - good tank in US TT, but not worth the price.
Unless you get Maus from anniversary, theres literally no heavy tank option, and even if you got Maus, due to its mobility issues its map and team dependent in a sense that everyone might be dead by the time you arrive to the battle - both your team (enjoy getting jumped by three Somuas) or enemy team (which now pushed even further and locked the enemy in the spawn).
Theres also slight issue that during and right after anniversary, Maus is literally spammed - everyone wants to play it, its Maus afterall. This leads to literal rat packs on maps such as Sands of Sinai, which are pain to deal with, or rat packs on maps like advance to rhine, which are even greater pain to deal with. Isolated Maus isnt a problem, but 8 of them sitting in a lane, pushing you? But I digress.
Then theres the kanzerwagen. Who wouldve guessed that putting 90s SPH on Leo2 chassis with LRF and relatively large derp HE at BR with 1950s tank that simply cannot match the targeting speed of LRF will make the more open maps literally unplayable for anything but autocannon lights, and make urban maps cancerous as theres no safe way to push Pzh2000 camping a corner; and if its driver didnt have lobotomy and is able to dodge your arty and you dont have flanking team mate, youre kinda boned. Oh well.
Then there are the 20mm Rh202 armed rats. Theyre fast, they have thermals, theyre annoying as hell when they perform track and barrel torture. But, the 20mm Rh202 doesnt actually have enough pen to deal with most of the tanks at its BR range from the side, so you can only be annoying, which is up to you if you find this a rewarding gameplay.
Marder at least gets Milans, but only 4 of them and theyre, well, Milans. Sometimes it feels like youre hitting your enemies with wet fart, which is far from optimal.
And then we get to the vehicles that ARENT in german 7.7 lineup. Namely dedicated SPAA. Sure, I already hear the pitchfork crowd saying “Akhually Wiesel and Luchs can supplement SPAA role” and I mean, sure. But Wiesel gets limited gun elevation (and its wiesel so you can literally mog the crew to death without ever firing a round) and Luchs, while better, still has single 20mm gun to use against planes. Compare that to Vulcan, VEAK and Yenisei which at least get a fire control radar (however bad it might be) or the Afghan shilka which can saturate the area with projectiles. But oh well, I guess SOME usable vehicle beats having none at all (looking at you, my 7.7 UK and FRA lineups). Germany also doesnt get a light tank/HEAT slinger at this BR which can be kinda limiting.
All n all i personally dont like 7.7 germany. UK, US, FRA and even russia get much less awkward lineups at this BR (hell, french 7.7 is a menace), so id advise you to skip it UNLESS you wanna play the kanzerwagen, and go for 8.0 instead (and even then kanzerwagen plays at 8.0 almost exactly the same).
