German Pages of History

Well I’m not a fan of neither party.

Ya but its about controversy, no one cares about the GDR, no journalist is going to write a hitpiece on the game because someone from the GDR was featured in game.

WW2 is another story.

Hey look, i found a modern one

Yes it’s been answered Twice. No Axis.

Post war though is interesting.Trouble is modern social stances hate any celebration of war or even nationalism. Nationalism is fascism these days so it’s hard to celebrate anything related to one’s own country.

Already the perfect picture to add at 2:13

Imho you are somehow on the right path, but you come to the wrong conclusions.

  • There are a lot of celebrations regarding WW 2 - just look at D Day events. Nationalism on it’s own is nothing filthy - just look at the Eastern European countries. After decades of being occupied by USSR troops (and without Western propaganda) they have zero problems to be proud of their countries without being hostile towards other nations.

  • There Is simply a narrative hammered for 80 years into Western oriented societies: WW 2 was a war of good vs evil - and not a fight regarding supremacy on the European continent and subsequently a fight to promote the US from a global economic power to a global military superpower. On top of that a certain ethnic group implemented their “most valuable victim of the war” narrative.

  • Seeing that the USSR and Poland counted for the highest death toll (absolute and relative regarding shares of total population) the reluctance of Russian devs to implement any kind of axis pfp seems to be comprehensible. The downside is imho the lack of dealing with their own history and their role in this war.

  • I am not sure if the pro-USSR voices have ever thought about why they were kept alive (or being paid) by US supplies 1942-1944, but it seems to be quite obvious that they were used to weaken Germany and the USSR at the same time. They fought alone vs Germany (except some activities in the Mediterranean) as they were willing to sacrifice millions of soldiers / civilians thanks to their totalitarian leader, whilst Western allies send either colonial troops (UK and very late France) or were able to reduce own losses to a large degree by building up their numbers to play the numbers game.

  • Lend-lease payments drove the UK (almost) into bankruptcy and subsequently demoted them from a global (just naval) superpower to the sidekick of the US. The US were the “real victor” of WW 2 as they managed to become the most powerful nation on the planet (with just ~ 400k human losses).

  • Regarding your nationalism = fascism theory: Imho this is the result of decades of brainwashing via media and the subsequent brain drain of the populations. Almost nobody is able to determine both topics - nor they have any clue what they are talking about, they are just parroting what they heard or use certain stuff to end discussions because they can’t deal with deviating opinions. It is extremely sad to watch the decline of the UK (from a beacon of free speech) into an Orwellian state (censorship). There is no historical evidence that the guys who censored were the good guys…

It’s not just Germans who are missing, so far there have also been no Romanians, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks, Italians, Belgians, Dutch, Chinese, Koreans and Japanese.

Gaijin picks its heroes sporadically, as the list of warheroes of the Soviet Union is very long, seriously very long.

I would really like to see Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš in pages of history.

I think that’s because it’s black and white. Here he is today:

That’s understandable, it was a huge territory after all. However, that doesn’t mean other nation’s heroes should be neglected. Germany is supposedly part of the big 3, yet we still haven’t gotten a single representative for the pages of history series. The Italians and Japanese are in a similar position.

It is a bit strange though, that we still haven’t gotten a Chinese pages of history icon…

Also something to note, his F-104 is 22+58, which sits in Meilenwerk in Böblingen today.

It would probably be a can of worms for Gaijin.

During the civil war, the Chinese Communists were the ‘aggressors’, but pick a Nationalist (who were the ones who fought against the Japanese) and there might be huge boycotts…

In any other war I can think of the Chinese have been the aggressors.

The photo confirmed to me that he was a Turkish-German, very different from the others,And looks

Honestly curious why this thread was re-opened.

Yeah i know. Its not far from where i live. Great piece of history about a man and his machine who went above and beyond the call, just to save a child.
It deserves a pages of history and a pfp!

Maybe Xie Jinyuan? He commanded the defence of Sihang Warehouse in Shanghai which even in the West is quite well known.
