German Pages of History

In the time since the “Pages of History” events have been introduced (April 2022), we’ve gotten a fair few profile icons. Going by “nations”, they are:

  • 10 Soviet/Russians
  • 7 Americans
  • 7 Commonwealth
  • 2 French
  • 1 Polish
  • 1 Mexican
  • 1 Israeli
  • 1 Canadian

So I ask, where are the German Icons? Why are the developers avoiding it like the plague? It’s not like all the well known Axis soldiers, pilots, officers and generals were war criminals.

I realize that we are missing Italian and Japanese Pages of History icons as well, however I cannot comment on them as I’m not as familiar their well known individuals. I’ll leave that to someone who’s more well versed in history.

There were plenty of well known Germans who didn’t associate with the Nazi regime and their deeds are forever immortalized and could be potential candidates for German Pages of History profile icons:

  • Schindler, who saved more than a thousand Jewish lives
  • Stauffenberg, who attempted to end the war by assassinating Hitler.

Not to mention many others. Two of the Germans listed in the “Righteous Among Nations” were WEHRMACHT OFFICERS- even Israel recognized their deeds. Gaijin effectively claim the moral high ground while ignoring them.

And if you’re so averse to anything German related from WW2, why not Manfred Von Richthofen aka the Red Baron? Don’t give us the excuse that you can’t do WW1 related events as you’ve already done Pages of History events for people who have absolutely nothing to do with mechanized vehicles (Desmond Doss, Roza Shanina,…). You’ve already bent the rules once.

And if you refuse to add even the Red Baron, arguably the most well known German pilot, why not add anything from the modern day? You do realize that the Bundesrepublik Deutschland and the Third Reich are not the same? The second world war ended 80 years ago and 90s were 30 years ago, guys.

Snail will deny it but they are still russian and so is the agenda they push in game with events
Dont expect anything ww2/ww1 germany related in game other than vehicles.

Already two intentionally provocative derailing posts not even 4 minutes in… -_-

Great post, War Crime.
I’d like to see Gaijin find and create articles about German heroes as well.
I can see from their perspective as a company trying not to offend, stepping on glass so to speak.

Well all the russian history events are controversial in many countries too (including soviet symbols being banned on par with swastika) but with gaijin roots and how ussr won the war with allies they get to be the heroes
Nothing can be done about it

“Game company Gaijin dot net has been found to be glamorizing World War 2 Nazi, Fascist Italian, and Japanese war criminals!”
Are not the kind of headlines they want to see. Regardless of if you think its “fair” or not, that is just how these things play today.
The Snail will pull the plug on the PoH before it sees the above happen.

Schindler, while connected to the Nazi regime, still did what he could to save as many lives as possible. The Red Baron’s tale finished way before the second world war started. I could see it sorta happening with Stauffenberg, but anybody with an ounce of brain matter will understand.

Also, if they’re terrified of the WW2 period of Germany, why dont they move on to the other half of the 20th century? Adolf Heusinger, for example.

Psssst. The Germans were the “bad guys” in WWI too.

Unfortunately for a game as political as War Thunder, there’s never not going to be glass… even the addition of certain vehicles is enough to set things on fire.

“According to documents released by the German Federal Intelligence Service in 2014, Heusinger may have been part of the Schnez-Truppe, a secret army that veterans of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS sought to establish in the early 1950s.[7]
Yeah… nope.

Israel’s addition having overly-sensitive people DDOS War Thunder for weeks.

Wilm Hosenfeld, which was also featured in The Pianist…
There are plenty of options of soldiers either unconnected from Germany’s leadership goals or directly opposed to their goals @Exocetta

I’d say Red Baron is the equivalent of the sniper I have as my avatar currently.

You should finish the quote. The Schnez Truppe were meant to defend against a potential Soviet assault.

Controversy. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was backlash, both legal and social, if Gaijin added one depicting an axis general/officer/pilot/commander/etc.

It’s been explained before, and this thread will eventually be locked.

You cite too contradictory people as examples (with the exception of Oskar Schindler, of course). I would rather cite Fritz Paul Schmenkel (By the way, in my country there is a monument to him for his heroism. It’s a pity that in Germany he was forgotten and erased as an example to follow…) or Hans Hermann, Adolf Appel, Wilhelm Schmidt, Hans Kratz as examples.

There’s also a mafia now that basically will use its power to ruin you in any way it can if you don’t play ball. Pretty much everything around black myth wukong is showing how shady western outlets and media is towards anything that doesn’t pay their protection fee.

Yeah…History isn’t my forte. I’m not too familiar with all the possible additions, let alone which is or isn’t controversial…

Anything WW1/WW2 would be.

Is there no one from the GDR or post reunification that would be worth adding? I know germany hasn’t really done anything but support american in the ME and whatever else. But certainly some german did something of note between 1950-2024 lol.

I’m sure there are, which is why I’ll leave it up to those who are better versed in history than I am.

From the GDR nope they were the bad guys. West Germany/ the BRD has multiple tho.

How is GDR not OK when the USSR is? That makes no sense.

Franz Stigler would be another one
