I found these two fan made trees on reddit and wow this would be amazing to see. I am heavily advocating for Thai vehicles to be expanded as a sub tree in Japan and hope Gaijin can look at this and take inspiration for this. I watch this thread in hopes of that. I doubt we’d ever get the VT-4 that Thailand actually uses, but I hope to see some others added along with Thailand. Here are the links to the post I found these at

As much as I’d want an expansion of Japan and Thailand’s ground forces, there are many aspects of these trees I find disagreeable or questionable (and there are some outright fake tanks).
I ultimately wouldn’t want to see the tree reworked as presented in these proposals, though many of the unadded vehicles featured in them would be good additions

During the 8th Reiwa Comprehensive Firepower Exercise, a Patria AMVxp was showcased with the Kongsberg RS4. I believe this RWS can also carry AT weapons. This is a pretty cool development! Japan hardly uses RWS.

The Patria 8x8 AMVxp can get heavy machine guns, a canon up to 30mm, automatic grenade launcher and maybe even a 120mm mortar, as well as smoke grenades.
I believe the gun mortar can fire directly at vehicles too
You mean AMOS? unless Japan decides they need to take AMOS from Finland since they are the only user of AMOS I don’t see it getting AMOS
Same goes for NEMO I don’t see anyone that could be a sub for them using NEMO
The question is did they use any of those weapons or just the Protector RCWS for basic anti troop weapons on the Patria?
I’m pretty sure it was just Protector last I checked
Also not sure if the XP can mount the mortar as the chassis internally is very different due to the loader system and turret drive

Does Japan plan on buying any Patrias without Protector RCWS?
Also technically the XP can get the Hitfact MK.1 turret but Czech was the group Patria was looking to show this off to but they weren’t interested so it’s currently still in Finland for occasional global expos iirc.
I don’t think the Japanese Patria’s will have the Hitfact turret since the Type-16 already fills in that role. RCWS with ATGM’s or AAM’s on the other hand that’s still a possibility

Naval SAM.
Some days we lost something with VLS systems but they are better in 90% of cases though this missiles get to have a large magazine depth.

Is there anything about when Japan might get it?
They only started the homepland production, so they are either just APC’s with or without 50cal I think,
upgrades are in discussion.
Japan Steel Work started to produce it on the homeland, first one was finished around the 22 September (wonderful birthday gift for me lol).
But Nippon Steel Works LTD only put the things together from imported pieces I think.

Seems more likely they are just APCs, Japan already has domestic ifvs why add yet another set. But who knows
