General Japanese, Thai & Indonesian Ground Forces Discussion HQ

Is there anything about when Japan might get it?

They only started the homepland production, so they are either just APC’s with or without 50cal I think,
upgrades are in discussion.

Japan Steel Work started to produce it on the homeland, first one was finished around the 22 September (wonderful birthday gift for me lol).
But Nippon Steel Works LTD only put the things together from imported pieces I think.

Seems more likely they are just APCs, Japan already has domestic ifvs why add yet another set. But who knows

Is there a photograph or Report?

That is my other question don’t they have one already even for a APC? I could understand a new turret this is very interesting is it better against FPV drones or something?

Could be cost effectiveness or just having a larger APC than the current model helps.

Patria is quite the large vehicle. Not as big as something like the Mowag Piranha 5 Skyranger, that’s a chonker

For some reasons, they already want to change from the Type-96 APC that was in service since 1998.

That’s not old for an armored box. Though it could be a Japanese classic of buying a design because they want something in the design but not the design its self that’s a side effect. Maybe the remote control system is most likely more complex then it seems.

In my opinion it is maybe for a better compatibility with modern add-ons such as future APS or others.
I think we are in a very important time in the history of tanks, since now those can be destroyed relatively easely with cheap system such as FPV, or modern artillery.
So they might have thought that it needs to be easily upgradable, and with NATO standard, because in the first time they will have to turn themselves for importing such systems before having the tech to do it.
That’s an idea.

Hopefully it gets a Gun or we will only see her in Infantry mode as a APC. Maybe we see picture of it soon.

Yeah, I do wonder if something like general upkeep or size that the Patria offers was just better over all.

For a tank that’s really not that old to be getting phased out seems strange

Tsuini teisatsu masuto ga nobiru eizō ga mitsukatta!

Idk it’s not like Protector RCWS is new though tbf though given how modular the Patria is that leave far more room for customization to fit specific needs.

Wonder if it’s more that Komatsu pulled out of the Japanese MIC?
Before they stopped Komatsu was developing an LEP Type 96 for the JGSDF, (better armour and mobility), which the Patria meets. And the Komatsu LAV is being replaced too now I’m thinking about it.

Ahh the Chi-Se would be great.
Sadly there aren’t even blueprints of it so it’s even less likely to get added than paper vehicles. The tiger 105 is kind of similar, but even that had a small sketch of it on paper if that counts for anything 😆
