General Japanese & Thai Ground Forces Discussion HQ

this is a need and a must

Does there exist a decals dedicated topic or do they all have to be suggested individually? Someone could definitely make one.

they have to be suggested individually, eg

IAI’s Barak MX for Thailand?

At the Air Force Commander’s final press briefing before retirement, the RTAF reiterated its plan to procure a Medium-to-Long Range Air Defense (MRAD/HIMAD) system under the FY2025 budget of 3.4 billion THB (~105 million USD).

Originally, three systems were included in the official tender announcement:

  • Barak MX from Israel Aerospace Industries: IAI (Israel)
  • SPYDER MR/LR from Rafael (Israel)
  • SiPER Block 1 offered by Excalibur International (Czech) in cooperation with Roketsan (Turkey)

According to the briefing, the system must be fully integrated into Thailand’s air defense network and capable of intercepting Tactical Ballistic Missiles (TBMs). This requirement significantly narrows the field, as only the Israeli contenders — IAI’s Barak MX and Rafael’s SPYDER MR/LR — currently meet that standard. The Czech-Turkish SiPER Block 1, while offered, lacks TBM interception in its present form (planned only in future versions).

Unofficial reports suggest that one Israeli bidder may have been excluded, leaving the Barak MX as a leading candidate. The program’s budget also closely matches Slovakia’s recent procurement of six Barak MX systems, further strengthening this possibility.

⚠️ However, the RTAF has not yet confirmed its final decision. The official announcement of the selected system is expected later this year.

A few interesting possible upgrades for the Chi-Ha/Shinhōtō Chi-Ha

  1. Track armor for Chi-Ha

  2. Smoke grenades for Chi-Ha

  3. Track armor on the Shinhōtō Chi-Ha turret

I noticed in passing that the Japanese very rarely used additional improvised armor for their tanks. Unlike the Americans, who used it very often.

Gaijin got so lazy, it’s not even funny anymore. Thai subbranch? Three vehicles, 1 of which is a complete copypasta that doesn’t even have its model done correctly, and one copypasta SPAAG. Where are things like the BTR-3? There even is a suggestion for it made by Ares with 130 votes. Where is the Thai upgrade of the M-163? Or of the upgraded M-60? Or all the older tanks? What they added isn’t even ‘‘just barely enough’’, it’s even less than that…

I want to believe BTR-3E1 and BTR-3RK come in the same update as those share almost everything model-wise exept combat module, which shouldn’t be all too hard given you won’t be making the vehicle from scratch.

In fact, modeling and programing BTR-3 base part is hella convenient given number of possible additions, like the Thai-trialed BTR-3E (CSE 90LP) for the same sub-tree and them Ukrainian specific models.

However, they will most likely come in separate patches, like it was with RCV (P) and ICV (P). I just hope one doesn’t end up being locked behind paywall, even though I can see BTR-3E 90mm being event material due to a) lack of post-WW2 event vehicles in JP tt and b) the nature of vehicle being experimental.

And yeah, overall Thai ground sub-tree feels much more disappointing than its air part. Sort of chopped Oplot, blatantly c&p M60 (M163 is fine because line up) and Stingray being in two trees at the same time because “muh US has no tracked LT” type crap. Sub-tree would be more fleshed out wasn’t VT-4 denied, as it would at least fill rank 6, thus having ranks 5-7 covered for now, but hey, having fun is not in agenda, so we can only keep coping for them vehicles to arrive next patch.

Barak uses the same radar set with the SPYDER? The Philippine version of the SPYDER MR uses the less powerful ELM-2138 Green Rock Radar (suggestion still pending) but I doubt the RTAF will go with an inferior system when they could buy a better one. Vietnam operates the SPYDER MR with the more powerful ELM-2048.

I wonder why the RTAF would ban Elbit, is it because of the delays that plague their international orders right now? Would make sense if they stuck to their already in service Python and Derby Missiles but Thai Armed Forces are used to operating basically unicorn vehicles anyhow lol (tbf better overall for WT honestly). Are they dissatisfied by the MBDA VL-MICA in service? Surprised to not see them being considered.

It would also still have a techtree equivalent now that Indonesia is in game, since the Badak FSV uses the same turret.

This one would be a lot less annoying to me if it at least had the turret model updated and the M426 round Thailand uses. The same changes could also be copied over to fix the ROC M60A3 TTS since it has the same issue with the turret model, and uses DM63 (licensed German M426) in reality as well.

The way it is now with the extended smoke launchers and removed turret stowage and rails just to fit an ERA package Thailand didn’t have is just weird, and M426 would just be nice to see since it’s used in reality (for the Stingray as well).

The US Stingray could’ve been a visually distinct prototype, but for some reason the Thai specific model was chosen instead. I have no idea why they could’ve decided this aside from just not wanting to spend money on another model.

I don’t know mate I was so excited to pay again 450,000 lions for a copypaste tank in order to access the actual new vehicles…but hey at least we got 2 vehicles that can actually boost lineups

Found a video M113s and Scorpions with “WERA” modification

If only British 76mm had HEAT-FS shells like soviets do with their recoiless 82mm. Would make much more sense having these vehicles in the game

I believe your comment was taken down on RnR thread, I can’t see yours at least there

It look good, but will it block anything?

I don’t think it was cancelled? As far as I’m aware, its just coming in a later update.

irl? probably not? might catch some artillery fragmentation or something. In game would probably just be cosmetic/volumetric fun times.

I just want more Scorpions/CVRTs :3
Would be a “great” premium

It’s in gray zone right now. Neither cancelled nor delayed.

Gaijin’s post for Chinese community mentions Q&A which covers the subject that should be posted late September, so the fate of Thai VT-4 is unclear. Probably will get responses this or next week.

I have a gut feeling no VT-4 or any other export vehicles shall leave Chinese TT, and if devs indeed state so, it will probably create many questions for present export non-shared vehicles (KF-41, T-90S…) and future ones (literally any export vehicle).

Bvvd iirc said on the Russian stream it’ll come in a later update, and the leaks say (Delayed). I don’t think they’d cancel the VT-4 as that’d bring more problems, the outrage from the Chinese players is a few hundred at best.
