General Japanese & Thai Ground Forces Discussion HQ

Not only HEAT but also APFSDS (about 100mm pen 60° @ 1000m) + Tandem ATGM (Falarick 90 w/ at least 550mm pen), couple these w/ laser rangefinder and thermal imager and you get a workable light tank with capabilities unique enough to be either squadron or event

apart from falarick 90, those are quite terrible performance, even worse than what ZTS-63 have at 7.7, definitely not 9.X worthy

Probably, but still better than usual 90mm low-pressure rat gun found at 7.x (given none have either thermals or laser rangefinders)

the thai sub tree for air at least in the higher ranks (10.3+) adds virtually nothing especially at the 10.3-11.0 BR’s theres quite literally nothing

Sure, it’s still less than other nations even when combined with Japan, but it’s not nothing and they have a bit of fun stuff to add in the 10.0+ area.

Spoiler

The normal stuff, like the Oplot, M60A3 TIFCS and BTR-3s. You might have to take away VT-4, VN-1 and VN-16, but even then they don’t seem nearly as controversial as they did in the past.
BTR-3E1 (ATMS)
VN-16

T-84 Oplot-T (full armor)

VL-MICA as multi-Vehicle SAM for when that’s added
VL MICA

And some very promising concepts for AFV420 and R600 chassis that are still in prototype stage
AFV-420P (30mm)
AFV-420P (ATGM)
AFV-420P (SPAA)

Panus R600 (105mm)
Panus R600 (120mm)
Panus R600 (Anti-Aircraft)

I’d agree it’s not enough just yet, but unless Gaijin mess up completely it’s not nothing either.

I still lack the idea why they wanted to plop a stingray turret on that m41 hull tbh…

Extend the life time of M41 chassis while preserving stingray chassis to reduce costs

oh those wacky thai guys

Funny true story, when RTA first recieved stingrays they were met with tons of reports for cracks in the hull, they sent some of the hull back to the US for evaluation but even Cadillac had no idea what was the cause. Later they found out that tankers were speeding the tank off dirt ramp to see who can make the tank fly the furthest which caused structural cracks from impact.

U know whats funny aswell tho, due to how gaijin handled the kf41 is mightily likely the stingray wont even be in the US tree due to the same idea.

But im sure some US mains will beg hard enough for gaijin to give a US techtree counterpart later

If they do that they have to give the Gemanys the KF but they’ve repeatedly stated due to the fact that it was bought by hungary germany cant get it

True, they’re some of my favorite Thai vehicles. Only reason I didn’t bring them up was BR, my guess for the Stingray is 9.3-9.7 maybe. But thinking about it the M60A3 TIFCS doesn’t seem like 10.0+ material either

It wasn’t just a weird Thai idea, it was a genuine export offer for the Stingray turret to be used on older chassis and there were even US demonstrators for it on the M551 and M41.

With Thailand already operating the M41A3 this could’ve been a good way to upgrade those old tanks for capabilities close to the new Stingray tanks at a lower cost than just buying more Stingrays. Though I guess in the end this was still seen as not worth it considering this never actually happened.

I think the US still has other equivalent options. I think by KF41 rules the production variant used by Thailand is off limits, and so is the Thai M41A3 with Stingray turret, but there is other Stingray types that could be added instead.

Stingray II

Another export tank, but since it was never designed with a specific country in mind and never adopted it’d go the US tree anyways.

M551 with Stingray turret

Another general export offer that wasn’t ever adopted.

M41(A1?) with Stingray turret

It’s a bit different from the Thai vehicle, mounting a machine gun and maybe (I couldn’t confirm this) using a different chassis, so this is also a US tank since it was never specifically made for or adopted by another country.

Stingray “(P)”

If they are salty enough about not getting a Stingray, they’ll just get a prototype/demonstrator with slightly different smoke placement. There’s a ton of US players, so chances are high that enough of them complain to get this anyways.

Can we expect the Stingray to perform similarly to the VFM5?

I would discribe it as lighter protected Leopard A1A1.

As it is rn, the KF41 is much worse than the Puma anyway. All that APS looks nice in theory, but it rarely works. If you ever want to play Italy, just get Freccia instead.

I reported on the fuel tanks of the Chi-Ha and its variants. In the game, the Chi-Ha series has batteries and oil tanks incorrectly modeled as fuel tanks.

MPMS, Chu MPM’s and Type 96 APC with Type 01LMAT/Komatsu LAV with Type 01 LMAT atgm could be a nice 10.3-11.0 set

if i recall the MPMS was accepted a while ago but never got anywhere

low defence/no defence and lightly armored but for the most part fire and forget (limited to amount has + ammo crate)
