General Japanese Naval Forces Discussion HQ

Man I want the Shinano with the 10 cm AA guns :(

They’d probably skip her due to the aircraft carrier thing. Even though she would’ve been a terrible carrier.
No.111 was 30% complete though and had the same changes.

Actually treatment of HT steel is very dubious as Ducol steel. Some ships get it as armor and treated RHA(which is significantly stronger than HT). But on some ships get HTS as structual steel, which is little bit weaker tha HT steel. It’s problem of WT naval that proposed in legacy forum but Gaijin didn’t changed.

Mutsu’s HT steel is treated as RHA, meanwhile Nagato’s HT steel is treated as structual steel. And structual steel treated as 0.4 RHA effectiveness. So it is not problem that 66 mm shell penetrate 69 mm structual steel armor, as it only gives 27.6 mm protection. Still it is hidden. Just not enough to give protection.

Maybe you should test again with 25 mm or 26 mm penetration shell.

We literally have antifragmentation armor on our ships. For example, the deck of the Oregon City is made of it; it’s 28.575 mm thick, and a shell with 35 mm penetration can’t penetrate it, but it should.

It is 28.575 antifragmentation(0.9 RHA) + 19 mm basic hull structual steel(0.4RHA, and hidden as moderator saids), so about 34 mm of pure RHA. Can be blocked in chance. Armor is little more sophisticated then seeing only in view.

Can anyone here explain to me how it is possible for the yamato to get oneshot into its frontal magazines while reverse angling (the angled bulkhead cant be the problem then when the back turret would be the way more likely to pen shot) by the sojuz with its sap from 16 km out? unfortunately happened in a naval ec match at something close to 1 hour 30 match time so theres no replays but the shot was performed by someone i was in discord with and he confirmed it was sap to the angled front armor belt below turret one or two and i instantly popped. the snail sure thats how that works?

a shot similar to this (which, theres a surprising amount of areas which show 11 mm of armor, although relatively tiny spots theres tons of these close to each other) Now, that might be because it only shows the outermost layer of armor and the sap detonates on the simulated shot in the armor analysis on the bulkhead or some other armor plate behind that, the person that did the shot also checked the armor viewer afterwards and he said it might be because the armor plates behind are destructable? if thats true then you are an “easy” oneshot to any destroyer with sap in that whole area with 11 mm of armor covering the magazines after one single penning shot that destroyed apparently all your armor behind a 11mm armor plate? WTF

and adding to that i remember i was probably even more angled than in the picture shown. i was about as far angled as i could while still being able to bring both front turrets on target, praying for enemies not just shooting my unangled aft bulkhead. worked vs one enemy but russian sap apparently just too stronk?

edit: as this is in german it says:
armor equivalent vs the chosen shell type: 11mm and possible damage:
compartment and vertikal armor plate (though that changes to different armor plates if you move the impact point around)

Its because of things like this if you take a look at my bug report, thankfully it got accepted 8^). Community Bug Reporting System

Also here is a video of both the Yamato and Musashi dying to 5 inch American SAP shells from a Moffet

oh so it is related or the same problem as you described in your reports. reading through them i already had the feeling that yeah that might have been what happened there, considering there should be no way that the yamato gets ammo racked there at its frontal ammo racks while angled away at that range by the soyuzs sap.
Adding insult to injury just a couple of shots before that i did somehow (probably rng god was with me cuz you know that actually shouldnt be possible) set both his frontal ammo elevators or barbettes on fire. Well, at least in the somehow still buggy af damage screen (which sometimes shows all ships on fire everywhere, shows blacked out modules which arent blacked out anymmore for ages etc etc) Anyways what do you know, magically both fires instantly disappeared 3 seconds later. And then he onetaps me with this bs shot that i didnt even see incoming probably because of pl or whatever. really the snail takes and then she takes but on some naval days she really gathers the unholy trinity of bad rng, shitty servers, horrible unbalanced maps and teams and an absolute chain of crappy spawns right next to some random battleship that you cant even bring guns on before exploding to do you in.

So besides that rambling, does the armor behind that really break? or does it straight out just ignore some armor plates. This is really getting ridicolous at some point, like how long does it take them to introduce some proper fixes to the worst performing 8.7 ship by a mile?
Why does it have the by far lowest amount of compartments making it way easier to destroy 3 of them? Why is the interior modelled that bad (idk if its still missing internal armored compartments)? theres several accepted bug reports on the bug reporting website that could help it yet to my knowledge none of them (maybe except the hilarious exploding by midship aa ammo???) was implemented. And they hope people pay 80 dollars for a nagato to grind this 50% finished model of a ship?

Yamama also could be killed in frontal lobe of the any main turret, if shot get lucky, also with moffet SAP. Shells penning via small holes near barrels then reaching ammo with big chance of instakill.

yea its because bs gaijin modeling of the armor plates with the very very very small gaps where shells can go through and why sometimes the effective thickness is 11mm

我给你提供了图纸

With the update live, why does Nagato have lower armour on its turrets than Mutsu ? 120mm on turret sides vs 200~ on Mutsu?

Ps: Dont want to argue, i want to know the reasoning ppl did when designing this ship

304.8 mm hidden under 120 mm.

In refit, Japan did add 120 mm NVNC armour on the existing 304.8 mm VH armour.

With Musashi and Nagato added this patch, what’s left for Imperial Japan? Shinano with 51cms? (Unlikely, since iirc Gaijin said something that she wouldn’t appear in battleship config somewhere) alternatively, Unnamed Yamato sister 4 (laid down but never completed)

As for other battleships, maybe Tosa? (I don’t remember if any were actually laid down or if they only existed as schematics)

Akagi and Kaga in battleship configuration maybe?

Tosa will be end of Japanese battleship, then maybe heading to heavy cruisers we miss or Siamese/Indonesian vessels.
Don’t think Kaga and Akagi will come as capital ship configuration as there are Tosa and Amagi.

My personal wish is remodel Mutsu into 1942 version as there are no equivalent backup to Nagato, but it’s hard wish.

I’ll admit to not knowing much about the IJN and her battleships, but shouldnt there be some armor here?

Currently Gaijin is very inconsistent about implementation of High Tensile Steel, some ships applied it as RHA(which is wrong), some ships applied it as structual steel(which is also wrong).

Mutsu is earlier case, Nagato is later case. So currently both ships are wrong actually.

There should, but iirc it’s a type of armor Gaijin don’t add, instead replacing it with structural steel which isn’t shown in the armor view.

Tosa, 4th Yamato class battleship, any ships of the Takao and Tenryu classes. That’s it as far as “heavy” ships go unless they start going backwards into pre-dreadnoughts.
Tragically Shinano, Kaga, and Akagi are going to be saved for their failed abortion of carrier implementation.

Maybe we can see Kii? They never laid the keel but other components were made for the ships, hard sell so I doubt we’d see those. B-65 is in a worse position than that with the project abandoned after design work had been finished.

not like they’d be any less realistic or believable than sovetsky soyuz

Did they not fix the flight deck of the Musashi?
