Game has suddenly started with heavy freezes / stuttering

for AMD players you can try to revert to an older grapichs card driver. that worked for me.

link where to get the older drivers: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

I recently reinstalled LoL and did not even think about how that. Thanks so much, it was driving me insane.

Hi. I had similar stutters and heavy performance drops until I disabled the nvidia overlay, now the game works perfectly fine. Whoever recommended that, thank you so much

hello ! it seems i have the same exact problem : GPU use drop causing small freeze. sometimes it is better and sometimes it is really awfull. did you find any solution to your side ? thx in advance !

i have it from time to time aswell, normally i always start war thunder without steam, but when it starts to lag, i startup warthunder with steam or amd adrenaline, and than its gone for a week orso. when it starts to lag again, u can repeat this again.
(cpu amd 7600X) (gpu 7900 GRE) 32gb mem

i hope this might help for u aswell

If you have turned off V-sync you can try turn it on and check how it works. For me theres much less freezes after turning it on.

Yeah I am having a slightly different issue, for me the game video completely freezes but the all the sounds are being rendered in as normal forcing me to completely close the game and start it again on mac.

I have the same issue, the game still freezing I tought it is caused by my monitor but that was from the game. RTX 4080 here and still freezing, any help pls?

Try disabling nvidia overlay first. It’s a really solid option as it, for some reason, only affects war thunders performance in a very negative way

Is adaptive Sync matter here? Because game dont lets me to allow it…

Adaptive sync is rather useless in a game like that because you have a super high performing card ( only switches to vsync in really low fps dips which shouldn’t happen anyway).
I’d recommend you turn it off as well and give that a try ( and disable nvidia overlay ofc, it’s in the settings tab)

ok thank you and what is the option to disable the Nvidia overlay?

Open you nvidia geforce experience tab and go to settings. Shouldn’t be hard to find from there

thank you, i found it and i turned it off. So could this be my problem to freezing the game? I thought it was my monitor issue…

I will observe it now.

Well, tell me yourself. Try to play a couple matches and see if it’s better or worse. If nothing changes/ the performance further worsens, then revert the things i told you to do.
I had a similar issue on my PC and the things I did just to figure out it was the nvidia overlay were far more extreme. But to each their own, I just recommended you a solution that solved the problem for me personally, however there’s also a chance you’re having a completely different issue.

do u know how to fix it for mac?

I’ve zero expertise for mac, sorry. The only thing I do know is that on mac things are iffy because of driver optimizations and limited power Hardware for most systems
So could really be anything but I can’t help, sorry again

Months later, I still have the same stuttering. This my main why reason I haven’t spent money or played WT since February

Welp, had a driver update last month and I haven’t had stutters since. So strange…

As this is the first result when you google “War Thunder stutter” I will document my experience with this problem here.

TL;DR: Exit Vanguard anti-cheat from the taskbar menu.

Computer specs:
RTX 4080 Super
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32GB Memory (6000 MHz, EXPO enabled)
Only have SSD’s.

My description of the issue:
Micro stuttering, basically felt like a frame was being skipped every once in a while. Exactly as what is being described/shown by the author of this thread.

The things I have tried:

  • Reinstall the different versions of War Thunder (standalone, steam, uhq, etc…)
  • Reinstall different driver versions
  • Complete fresh install of graphics drivers (DDU)
  • V-Sync, G-Sync, Framecap and any combination of it.
  • Windowed vs fullscreen
  • Disabling Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling
  • Disabling Variable refresh rate
  • Disabling optimisations for windowed games
  • Disabling nvidia overlay/capture
  • Disabling gamebar

I’m sure I’m forgetting some of the things I’ve tried, but I’ve tried it all and none of it worked. In the end exiting the Vanguard anti-cheat from taskbar is what solved my issues. I no longer have any stutters. If I forget to disable after a restart I simply exit War Thunder, disable Vanguard and launch War Thunder again and the stutters are gone.
