I just hope they add more than just this variant this update like they did with the Wiesels. This isnt really gonna add anything new apart from give gaijin the go ahead just to move the fox up to 8.0 (which it shouldn’t) and put this at 7.3-7.7. I think the thermals and lrf of the later models would make for an excellent 9.0 afv for us, as having gen 3 thermals and lrf with some add on slats and armour would make for not only a great light vehicle but a good looking one as well.
Im still glad they’ve added it tho, looks as beautiful as the first time i saw it.
i know its been said to not rely on past updates
but usually we have nearly a week of dev server, then around a week post dev server, and the update this time of year usually comes out right as November starts,
I’d say there is a pretty large chance of it coming today, since its almost always on a Thursday
Looking at it, it’s about a 1994/1995 configuration (the period where they’d deploy on Op. Grapple then Op. Resolute in the Balkans)
It’s got the OTIS storage bin on the back of the turret, and mount on the commander’s sight where OTIS sits. So it’s not early early.
It has the larger, post Op. Granby (Gulf War) headlamps that are mounted on top of the mantle for the (unused and removed) flotation screen, so it’s early 90s at least. But doesn’t have later 1990s mods like guards around the headlamps, repositioned turn signal clusters, and proper standardised external stowage boxes that were manufactured by ABRO during Scorpion conversion to Sabre ~ late 1994 (modified surplus toolboxes from Chieftains were used on Scimitar during Granby, then these ones bodged together from warehouse shelving frames and wood or mesh plate appeared for units that didn’t have Chieftains to scavenge from).
Certainly doesn’t have stuff like TNTLS and the SPIRE/ESPIRE thermal sights that were added to some Scimitars shortly before the Life Extension Program, where they became standard in the 2000s.
Ed:- Couple of stock images of one from the Light Dragoons in identical configuration as part of UNPROFOR in early 1994
You could try to do that.
Oh no, sorry, I forgot that, contrary to France, the UK don’t have an independent nuclear program, and need the US permission to use their own nukes. What a shame
To some extent i hope it is variant of the 1970s-1990s as @da12thmonkey have outlined in their very informative comment about the different significant Scimitar sub-variant/modernisations:
The reason why i am hoping for that it is the earliest version, is because it would probably be a similar BR to the FV721 Fox. At the same time, this would also be an opportunity for the later sub-variants to be added either at the same time or later on.
To be honest, the one i am really hoping for, is the Scimitar LEP EM 235, which have better engine, LRF & gen 3 thermals. While it does have the same capabilities as the Scimitar Mk.2, and some would maybe say the should just add the MK.2 instead, the advantage of the LEP EM 235, is that it is smaller, since they use different hulls from each other.
