FOX-3 and CHAFF

How does it work? Why do Fox 3 missiles just unpredictably lose their target after a couple of launches of chaff? In the picture, the enemy F16 started launching chaff at the moment when its movement vector was still towards my AIM-120. It launched exactly four chaff and the missile immediately lost its target. It has always been like this, in order to drop the lock of an enemy radar missile, it was necessary to position the aircraft relative to the lock-on beam at 9-7 o’clock, ideally 8. Now Fox-3 missiles are absolutely unpredictable. They can lose their target after a couple of launches of chaff, or they can hold the target stably even if you throw out a whole bag of chaff, and in the right vector.

For me, anytime a Fox 3 is coming I make sure to go cold, then I wait until it’s within ~2km and finally I just drop 3-5 chaff in rapid succession. Works every time.

This can happen with SARHs too, I’ve noticed. My guess is it has something to do with server connection and synchronization. I’ve had an AIM-7F be one-chaffed in a perfect head-on at altitude as if it has a pulse seeker and I’ve also had it track through a perfect notch and total chaff dumps.

had this same exact thing happen to me with 120’s and Phoenixes a lot during the event

Chaff is a mess right now.
We dont know if Gaijin models RCS for individual aircraft (which realy matters when an ARHM is using it’s own Radar to intercept the target.

Aircraft with BOL pods have chaff that doesnt work (it’s been nerfed it’s nigh on useless!)
In my experience, The AIM120 are often spooked by F-15 and F-16.

Radar missiles are susceptible to anti-radar missile countermeasures.

Keeping a prolonged lock on a target with your own radar before and after firing (after FOX 3 has its own lock) gives your target more time to look at their RWS and know you are there and is a threat. Catch targets off guard or while distracted gives the best results

Here, watch the video again. Why did my AIM-120 missile fired at the enemy Gripenn immediately go to its chaff reflectors, just instantly. And he only fired a couple of them. At the same time, he fires his Fox-3 missile at me, I fire a whole bunch of chaff reflectors without stopping, A WHOLE BAG. The missile doesn’t even lose its target (my plane) for a second.

BOL Chaff fixes would fix so many problems.
