Ouch.

Ouch.
I have to say, as someone who originally came to WT in 2015 (actually 2014 but only once i had a GPU that could run DX11) from the Paradox Interactive side of wargames, and lived through the extremely well planned… AND COMMUNICATED… change in Paradox’s own jump from the obscenely ancient Vbulletin to Xenforo…
I for one am not mad that the change was made, this has been happening across internet forums slowly for the past decade- this was literally always going to happen eventually, with the basic design of a cascading series of rectangles dating back to the 1983 being utilitarian and well and truly dated.
i’m not even particularly annoyed that the new forum looks the way it does- it’s always going to seem obtuse because it’s a totally reinvented wheel, not the dressed up redesign of the old wheel that Delphi Forums invented 40 years ago.
i’m just kind of amazed, baffled, and confused why Gaijin didn’t think this was a uh… kinda important change worth letting people know about.
this could’ve been an event, a celebration! a sendoff to the classic forums! instead it’s yet another utter migraine for the moderators (some of whom i can only imagine didn’t exactly get months of advance notice), and another catastrophic unforced error that just leaves the community infuriated and distrustful of a company that at times seems to be blissfully unaware of any potential ramifications to dropping such a large change to a universally known system.
Not having any warning is what I’m the most mad at, its just straight up unprofessional and insulting to make such a major change without any warning.
why do I have to scroll 100 posts and not have them chunked together into pages? Seriously who thought this was a good idea xD I’ll literally be programmer if gaijin needs someone
difficult to find anything atm on this new form
Hiding basic functionality like editing posts behind a so-called trust level system is a really crappy idea. Also, the timing could hardly be any worse. After so many negative posts on the old forums essentially leaving everything in the old area which will in time be deleted seems pretty convenient.
Migrating content is not rocket science and many other companies have successfully migrated content during a forum software transformation. The only reason not to do this is if you do not want to keep the old content visible… Wonder why…
And here I was thinking Gaijin might have finally understood that transparency and owning your mistakes earns you trust. Trying to hide things results in quite the opposite plus there’s this thing called Streisand effect…
Not sure what you mean ? we are communicating Feedback, and nothing is really set in stone, certain things may or may not change tho…
lol, then you really have not been doing internet things for 40 years then : P
I on the other hand have been doing internet things for 40 years, and I have seen some very basic text forums that are basically just like the old 90s E-Mail systems…
Change can be hard for sure… but, you will get the hang of it!
Oh, so you’re calling me a liar, eh? Hardly seems like something a forum mod should be doing… but really not surprising at all, sadly.
We used PINE back in the late 80s at the University of Washington. it was a basic Unix based email system. It was ugly and clunky… but it was 1000x better than this new forum format.
I really fail to see how… since this forum is not ugly nor clunky… I still see very basic forums in use where it is a single text based thread with no features nor options nor can it be expanded on
Here with this forum, more features will be opened up as we go, changes can and will be made or adjusted as we go also
This new format IS ugly. I realize that’s a subjective matter, but that’s how I feel about it. And it’s super clunky! We’re forced to fumble our way through these massive changes without any sort of user guide, demo, or anything else that would , in any other commercial interest, be provided to users before rolling something like this out to everyone. But, nope… roll it out into PROD, let the users fumble and thrash about in stunned confusion, and then simply dismiss their lack of enthusiasm for these changes. Given all the self-inflicted damage Gaijin has done to itself in recent weeks, one really would have thought the company would be far more transparent and communicative about such a broad and sweeping change.
Did you or the other mods get a chance to play around with the new forum systems beforehand? Or did you at least know it was coming? Or were you just as surprised as everyone else when you logged in the other day?
Why wasnt there an adjustment period like there was with the new bug report site? (which is also clunky to navigate)
Why does this forum seem half finished but is played off as ready?
What was the reason behind locking editing and being able to post more than 3 times a day (seriously?) behind a “trust level” that I have a feeling can be reset to 0 on the whim of an administrator?
That’s the new thing, u don’t
I don’t like it :(
New features are all cool but sadly I do not see them at the moment, why do you force such drastic change then ? Changes as we go ? So this product is clearly unfinished, all you had to do is to push this back by 2-4 weeks, give us proper announcement, gather feedback, present us your ideas, take some from the community and incorporate them, easy as that
All with proper announcement, topic, news…
This as a forum at the moment is in my eyes half finished - partially nonfunctioning product which in my eyes is missing even more features than we had on the good trusty old forum (edits, sometimes I can not say who is replying ti who and what text, not enough emojis… for example)
Plus it is unpleasant to look at, my eyesore after 15-20 mins of reading
The only thing positive about the forum change is that now you can decide to view hidden messages anyway xD
Yep as I see another one of my comments just got hidden lol. By the “community”. Yeah whatever.
Little hint ? we can still view them but you have to click on the greyed out view content.
I would prefer for comments not to be hidden and for the individual to be able to decide if they do or do not want to read these comments, all of the comments hidden so far have been hidden for no reason.
Just show me that it’s been flagged or something without hiding it.
i still dont like that version of the Forum Edit: now you cann edit your post lol
This annoys me too, every one i have clicked on has not been anything i would consider worth flagging compared to the stuff around it. Its just amusing seeing something flagged and its a tame post, followed by the one beneath having actual swear words and is completely uncensored XD
