Hopefully with the updating of damage models we’re seeing this major, they’ll eventually start modeling redundancy better. Loads of aircraft should have redundancy but in-game they all have single points of failure
If your repair skill isn’t high enough you won’t be able to repair severe damage on an AF.
Also, I quite enjoy being able to repair my aircraft if I can get it back to the AF without crashing and burning.

Lightning F-6 with no rudder was probably the hardest ive had to land
Oh yeah, I’ve landed quite a few aircraft with lost rudders. Definitely among the hardest other than losing an entire wing.
For that F1 the RTB was gnarly. Having to maintain afterburner and basically keep the nose 180 degrees from the ground. Was an experience.

Yeah I agree, being able to show off design choices that make vehicles uniquely survivable are always welcome, a single hit to a frame should not equal catastrophic in some cases
A10 is the best example for this problem.
Triple redudant flight control irl, ingame you get damaged on the tail and you loose control completely.
Therefor I check the battle log everytime I get a black damage to avoid death at the end of the battle.
On many planes you get two black tail wings, no performance lack, but a severe damage.
The repair time is the time it takes you to run to the next plane.

If it is counted as dead, it can’t be repaired. There have been multiple times where I made it back to an airfield, and it tells me I can’t repair my aircraft due to it being too damaged. (and that is with ace lvl 75 crews)
I occasionally see people in realistic battles who have 1 in the deaths column but repaired and came back into the fight, though mostly from people who crash on the airfield
I have done this several times in the mk24 spitfire and and plenty more in jets. you can just about keep in the threshhold for repairs after a death, its quite easy to pull off in ARB
The severe mechanism might need more tweaking, but if they manage to land, then you probably didn’t deal enough damage in most of the cases.

If you have such an issue with being able to repair just think of your pilot surviving the landing, jumping out of the plane and getting a new one. That makes more sense than actually repairing the plane without wings.
Would it change the way you view it if insted of saying repairing it would say “wheeling out a new plane from the hangar”?
The only time it bothers is me is during strafing… parts fall off, stuff is on fire… but as long as he’s off the throttle, he’s good. I get that the answer to that is a longer burst or hitting the cockpit, it’s just a point of frustration because it’s not easy to get those shots or survive them.
I have “crashed” on landing with a severely damaged plane that subsequently repaired… I was pretty surprised when the repair and rearm timer came up. Won that match too…
