if the targets relative velocity is near 0, the radar returns will be masked significantly by clutter. So when most people complain about rear aspect detection, they usually mean when chasing somebody down low.
Possibly, I don’t have any sources that prove otherwise. I do know though, that the rear aspect return against ground clutter is too low even if you have a high closure rate in-game currently.
yeah found it
is that for the F-14’s AWG-9? If so, I believe the AWG-9 is underperforming by about 17m/s as its current velocity width is 120m/s instead of ~103m/s
Misread that lol, so from a little bit of research, the MBC filter is ±133 knots, and the F0 filter is ±100 knots.
So if target closure is within 100knots of 0. It will be filtered, if target closure is within 133knots of your ground speed, V, it will be filtered.
±100 knots is about 51m/s not 100m/s ±133 knots is about 68 m/s
Oops typo; yep
Yes its for the AWG 9 ,here’s the full source

Cheers
Don’t forget that the AN/AXX-1 TCS is still part of the AWG-9 FCS so could generate Antenna Train angle to a contact, and the Radar would only then need to supply range information to complete the track. It also wouldn’t be needed for a Firing Solution either since the Antenna can simply generate the proper waveform for SARH guidance since it is already aligned with the target.
Just gonna add this link here…
Very cool
I found a video on YT, where veteran pilot explains how radar scope is working. It works a little different than in War Thunder. I’m not talking about pulse-doppler but a standard pulse radar.
I think in War Thunder it’s very simplified how target lock works.
3:24 he start to explain radar lock
Hehe the jizzle band
Also very neat video
Is that for the AWG-9? The F-4Js radar notches are smaller than that. I’m a bit surprised that the F-14 would be worse.

Yep, AWG-9, i agree I was mildly suprised.
What’s the source?
Apparently the MLC can be disabled, for look up situations.
