Carro Armato L5/30

History

In 1920, Italy was in short of tanks and the high commands had noticed. The only tanks on the ground were two Fiat 2000s and some French Renault FTs used for tests. The High Commands together with the industries decided to create a new national tank based on the Renault FT tank, and so they started the works. After a few years, in 1920, the first vehicle was built and it was basically an improved Renault FT tank with a different armament. At the end of the 1920s the tank was modified to be able to mount a Vickers-Terni 37/40 cannon (the same as the M11/39 tank) and was called the “Fiat 3000 Mod. 30 Assault Tank”. The vehicle was distributed to the crews and was used until 1943, the year in which the last Fiat 3000 tank was destroyed during the fighting near the city of Gela.

As mentioned in the title, the tank had many names (changed in years for the name of the vehicle according to the new standardised nomenclature in line with the standards of the Regio Esercito), and I tried to write them all below:

Armament and propulsion.

The Fiat 3000 Model 1930 was armed with a 37/40 Cannone Vickers-Terni cannon with semi-automatic breech with an elevation of -10°/+20°. The vehicle carried up to a maximum of 68 armor-piercing and semi-piercing ammunition.
The vehicle was powered by a 6,236 cm³ FIAT Tipo 304 petrol engine for Tank 3000 with four cylinders in line which delivered a maximum power of 50 HP and allowed the vehicle to reach a maximum speed of 24 km/h.

With the addition of the 2Cs, a vehicle with a max of 24kph has become more acceptable. That being said, even if added at 1.0, this thing would probably be the worst 1.0 in the game, aside from the cursed Frenchies. Still +1 tho.

The French have the 2C, which is literally a slowly moving brick.

The 2C is a heavy tank which has an usable gun + some armour and a very big crew. It can afford to be slow. The 3000 is a light tank with light armour, not a very good gun and quite poor mobility, with only 2 crew members.

At least it would be a “fun” addition to the game.

I think it’d discourage new players from trying the Italian tech tree. It’s even worse than the H35 and FCM 36. As I’ve said, it could be added when other nations also receive weaker tanks (Renault Otsu Gata for Japan, for example).

Or maybe added as a “premium” vehicle alongside the premium L6. It wouldn’t make sense, it would be useless, but it would be fun. Seriously, it would only serve with other similar vehicles such as the Renault FT.

It’d be bad, but it’s still a Renault FT variant that would be (marginally) functional at 1.0. That’s good enough for me.

It could be killed by .50 cal at 100 meters and by 7 mm at 10 meters, but no problem.
