I’d like to address some concerns regarding the current state of top-tier ground battles (BR 10.0 and above) and propose a few adjustments that could enhance gameplay balance and enjoyment.
- Increasing Map Size for BR 10.0+ Battles
At the current top-tier levels, engagement distances and vehicle capabilities have advanced significantly, but map sizes have largely remained the same. This creates a congested battlefield where long-range firepower and strategic positioning become secondary to brawling tactics, which doesn’t reflect the realistic combat scenarios these vehicles were designed for.
Proposed Solution:
- Increase the map size by at least double for BR 10.0 and higher battles.
- Expand available cover and terrain features to allow for better positioning, tactical flanking, and longer engagement distances that suit modern tank capabilities.
- Larger maps would help mitigate the issue of spawn camping and promote a more dynamic battlefield, reducing the “arcade-like” feel that currently exists at higher BRs.
Many community discussions and feedback threads have expressed the need for larger maps to fully utilize the technological advantages of modern MBTs (War Thunder Forums, Reddit discussions).
2. Adjusting Close Air Support (CAS) in the Early Game
Currently, top-tier ground battles often experience an overwhelming presence of CAS within the first few minutes of the match. This creates an unbalanced experience, as ground vehicles struggle to establish positions before facing devastating air threats, often leading to frustration among players.
Proposed Solution:
- Delay CAS availability for the first few minutes of the match (e.g., a 5-10 minute delay), allowing ground vehicles time to set up and engage in meaningful combat.
- Introduce an objective-based unlocking system, where CAS becomes available only after achieving specific ground-related goals, such as capturing control points or reaching a team score threshold.
- Increase the spawn cost of CAS aircraft, regardless of their current loadout, to reflect the significant impact they have on the battlefield. This would discourage early-game “suicide bombing” tactics and promote a more strategic use of airpower.
- Ensure that CAS planes always have a higher spawn point cost, even when equipped with minimal weaponry, to prevent players from exploiting low-cost air spawns for scouting or harassment.
These adjustments would give ground forces a fairer chance to engage each other without constant disruption from air strikes and align the gameplay more closely with combined arms warfare principles. Players across various platforms, such as the War Thunder subreddit, have frequently raised concerns about the overwhelming dominance of early-game CAS in ground battles.
