Faction based teams

Can someone explain me why are teams faction based? (For example 🇨🇳🇮🇱🇷🇺 VS 🇫🇷🇺🇸🇬🇧🇩🇪)

What’s the point if there are so many copy pasted vehicles across all nations? What’s beneficial about it?

By allocating specific nations together or against each other, gaijin is able steer winrates (WR) for specific nations. Almost every game developer is obsessed with balancing by statistics and see a 50% WR for all teams as Holy Grail of game play design.

Example:

Nation A: Good hardware, low player skill on average, subpar WR.
Nation B: Average hardware, excellent player skill on average, above average WR.

If you program the MM to enforce that Nation A plays always vs Nation B, the WR of nation B will increase. If your goal is to increase the WR of nation A all you have to do is to team them together fighting weaker nations C, D,E…

No. The last time that happened, Japan had significantly under-BR’d vehicles for years due to only facing USA which caused USA to have under-BR’d vehicles.

AFAIK teams depend on the players pool, completely random.

That’s not what I am talking about. I just don’t understand why MM is even considering factions/nations at this point.

Why you think it’s not a good matchmaking?

I am not saying it’s bad. I just don’t understand what’s the point since there’s so many copy pasted vehicles across all nations.

It just feels like total gimmick.

Yes there’s copy pasted vehicle, but this doesn’t explain your complain, what are your suggestions. You’re very unclear.

Oh I see. Well, at lower tiers there are big difference in vehicles ( most of them ) in higher tiers I guess that is easier to keep the TT and sell premiums to people that want to unlock all.

Also there is a lot of people wanting more nations ( Yugoslavia, Poland, Brazil, etc.). If players want to give more money to gaijin, you cant blame them from taking it

Just a giant tech tree, or something like that, you know we have German leo vs italian leo vs Sweden leo vs French leo

I just asked for explanation. I did not suggested anything.

But I think faction based teams are kinda pointless at this point. There’s one big downside to it tho.

For example, if one team is made up of several nations that doesn’t have proper AAs at given BR. Team is instantly in disadvantage.
Meanwhile if teams weren’t faction based (meaning, for example players with Russian lineups could be in both teams), the game could be potentially more balanced.
Without need to add infinite numbers of copy paste vehicle just for balance reasons.

But whatever, I am playing WT only casually. So I really don’t care that much.
I just don’t see any significant benefit of teams being faction based.

  • Based on my experiences outside mixed battles (=Nation A on both teams) nation allocation is steered by gaijin to achieve their internal goals whilst considering player numbers - but reducing queue times looks like priority #1.

  • If you observe nation allocations via the MM for a longer period (like playing on weekend if your family is visiting your mother-in-law) you see clear patterns. On top of that the patterns vary during the day.

  • This depends of course on the number of available vehicle options in each BR. Within prop BRs in Air RB this nation allocation is extremely obvious, so certain setups are way more over-represented than others.

  • If player numbers are very small the MM still uses the axis vs allies MM or enables small 6-8 vs 6-8 matches on Pacific maps with the old JP vs US/UK approach.

One of the reasons I am staying in Arcade: no skewed win rate depending on the nation that I choose. Fair mixed teams always.

Then Gaijin won’t be able to sell premiums for each nation.

I miss the old Allies vs Axis + Wildcards on any side.
