Why is a plane with Radar AAM, and IR AAM, while also being fast placed at 9.0? it gets a lot of down tiers fighting 8.0s that can’t fend for themselves as the Demon can catch them and outperforms many aircrafts. When I used the Demon at 9.3 against 10.3s, I felt that it could still compete, but this plane being 9.0 means it’s the best of the best and is very unbalanced.
AIM-9B and 7C arent too hard to deal with to put it lightly. Being faster in a downtier is a pretty normal occurence so no issue there
its not really anything special, everyone at a lower BR than it should be able to dogfight it easily, and its not really faster than anything at a higher BR than it
aim7Cs are pretty weak especially with the not great radar on the f3 and we all know about aim9Bs
really? I played it and found it super meh.
AIM-9Bs are standard at that BR, and quite frankly I tried for multiple games to get a kill with the AIM-7C and just could not, you have to put yourself into a seriously compromising position just to get both a radar and a missile lock to hit, let alone having to hold yourself in that position with that lock until the missile hits (if it hits).
Flight performance I thought was pretty average for the BR.
this isnt really true, f3h-2 has really good one circle for a decent amount of time before it runs out of energy assuming it starts in a high energy state, it can be very hard to shake before he either kills u or puts you in a low enough energy state to where somebody else does his job
The Vautour with radar missiles is 8.3.
There is exactly one plane that I’ve played which I’d ever consider as being hard countered by the Demon, and that’s the Interceptor Vautour. For everything else, the Demon is laughably easy to deal with.
The missiles are nothing special, except in the AIM-7C’s case where it’s special for how utterly useless it is.
The energy retention is some of the worst I’ve ever seen, to the point where most 8.3s can easily energy trap it if they play their cards right.
It’s only scary if you allow it to get behind you with a much higher energy state. If you both merge headon, you can simply keep flying, as if it turns 180 degrees to give chase it will bleed so much speed that you’ll easily be able to outrun it. Or you can just wait for it to engage in a fight, where it will bleed so much speed it ends up just sort of hanging in the air.
The only thing it can do is pretend it’s an F-104 and try to never pull and outrun everyone, but it’s not even that fast.
Was 9.3 and should have always been 9.3, though 9.3 above is still compressed.
Simply super ez to get 4-5kills games.
But as I said, it’s also very easy for it to one circle someone before they can get into a position to do something with their energy advantage. Lots of jets have similar issues with energy or simply don’t have the engine because they were mega uptiered and even the demon can get them sustained.
If they’re attempting to one circle a Demon, they aren’t energy fighting. You just don’t need to fight for position against something that will fall out of the air after any extended dogfight. All it takes is to delay the turn and take the fight vertical. If you merge with any reasonable amount of energy and have a decent airframe for energy fighting, that’s already game over for the Demon. Just watch out for missiles in stall shots, meaning never let your energy drop too low or extend the fight straight up.
This doesn’t work in every single plane, obviously. But even in this situation, you can often just extend away. If the Demon does a 180 to chase, it’ll blow so much speed you’ll have a sizable headstart. He will be able to catch most plane eventually, however a Demon at a low energy state is a very tempting target. If you have any friendlies in the area (Which you should if you’re positioning correctly), they’ll dive on the Demon and force him to break off the pursuit. Demons are exceptionally vulnerable to being third partied (Due to their large size, horrible energy retention and poor acceleration), and that’s something most players at this BR know.
It can club 8.0 planes in a 1v1, but so can most 9.0s and a sizable portion of 8.7s, most of which are far better off at tier or in an uptier. The Demon’s characteristics mean that it’s only oppressive against planes with even less energy fighting ability than it, which is basically nothing about 8.3. It’s a bit like the Vampire, only good when the people fighting it have no idea what they’re doing.
If you merge neutral you can decide what to do and force an engagement as the other plane where you can out-energy the demon, I agree, but I don’t think most merges in air Rb are neutral merges where both sides are in head on before they merge. The demon excels at just being faster than you, catching you in rear aspect if you try to run, then beating you in the one circle before you can get to the point where you can start outplaying it with energy. I am referring to when it gets these common downtiers into 8.0-9.0 land where it is effectively a near-supersonic jet that also turns tighter in the one circle than most planes it faces so you end up in difficult scenarios.
For me, it’s just one of the 9.0s that don’t belong there that ended up there due to compression.
This is again, misleading, because air RB is a 16v16 enviroment. The problem with planes like A6M, Demon, Vampire, whatever, is that they can often get into scenarios where they force themselves upon you because they had a higher energy state for about 5 seconds, and then once they have you, they have you. They can end up with a higher energy state than you even if you weren’t necessarily playing incorrectly simply because another player forced you to go defensive near them.
