F14 It's too strong for the current BR(12.3-12.7)

With aim7p added that’s another missile it did use I don’t think 14 would be right without decompression

f14A does have weak engines and does bleed speed in a dogfight compared to other planes its a fact while it doesnt do it badly it does hamper you after the first three turns youll be out of energy because of TF30 engines these engines where a stop gap till the GE110 could be produced for it

have never had anyone flare my mig23 MLAs r24R r so id say its pretty good for 11.7 far better than F4e at similar BR

yak141 never had a radar for its missiles and still got them

And t80 using prototype thermals :)

1 of 2 things gonna happen f14B and A go down or Aim54 gets buffed

At least aim 54c get buffed

historically it had aim-9m but gaijin wont give it

F-14B: 1987
9M: 1982
but it doesn’t get it in-game

Add aim7p and aim9m for f14d if it ever comes 🙃 and decompress top tier so it isn’t DOA

Date of introduction is not used in this game unfortunately or m1 would have m833

You assume those things plus:

yeah… compared to gen4s. Not to gen3s. It also doesn’t ever bleed speed like a MiG-21. So, false. You still don’t realize the point here is that it can’t be 12.3 because its just so much better than whats at 12.0 and below?

probably because they are radar missiles… they can also be notched same as any other missile or multipathed.

F-4E isn’t really far worse, and its at a lower BR.

intro dates dont matter

It’s getting Aim-54C ECCM and DFCS. That’s not up for discussion. Those are integral parts of the F-14.

Smin: Missiles are balancing factor.

Right?

Back in day when F-14B was meta
Gaijin maybe thought AIM-9M is too much, I guess.

Its engines are literally gen 3 engines btw.

Even if we consider TF30 as 3rd gen engine
Still, F-14A can beat quite much of 3rd gen enemies in dogfights at ease.

Riiight?

If you can use flaps correctly you can beat most gen 4s. The only gen 3 that gives the tomcat a struggle is the MLD.

Maybe that was one of the main reasons why I disliked the guys who underestimated F-14A as ‘just F-4S with AIM-54’.

Man, F-14A with a skilled pilot has always been my nightmare. They deserve better than ‘F-4S with useless ARH’ for their nickname. :|

I even have memories about 1 enemy F-14A beating two allied Mirage 2000CS-5 in a dogfight.
(maybe when Magic 2 wasn’t magic-al IRCCM missile but mediocre C&P-ish version of Magic 1)
If he was on F-4J instead, he might lost that match I think.

I really think potential beneath her fuselage is way bigger than just described as ‘F-4S but with slight extra feature’ :/

I mean, Phantoms are also cool (I especially like those which are on RAF/FAA service)
But, as long as

  • Phantoms can’t use AIM-54
  • and don’t have a variable-sweep wing

F-4J/S will never be a replacement for F-14 I think.

Anyway, I think this discussion went a quite funny way after all that time has passed.
When this discussion was originally written, F-14 had an advantage from multipath reduction and compression.
So the main issue of the argument was
“F-14 became too strong after multipath nerf!”
vs
“no, it isn’t that much strong”

and after a few months have passed, with some decompression. (which was better than never but quite disappointing way)
F-14 is now having a disadvantage from compression, and the main issue of argument became
“F-14 became way too weak after powercreep!”
vs
“no, it isn’t that much weak”

quite opposite way, but caused by the same silly compression problem. :/
