I have made a thread about the F-4EJ Kai back in the day but I complained about different things at a different time period, so I feel it would be dishonest to bring it up again.
So I made this new post.
I think F-4EJ Kai is one of the worst 12.3 planes right now. (not counting strike planes like JH-7A)
In a era of IRCCM and Gen4 spam, the EJ KAI stands helplessly, having to rely on multipathing in close range due to poor turn rate(bad for notching). Any attempts to escape the tailing F-18s or even fellow phantoms will result in death because you’re a bus that can’t turn. Turning is also important against IRCCM.
It’s only advantage is that it has many missiles. Twice the amount of its competitors.
But I chosen 3 planes to do this comparison with: Mig 21 bison, F-18A, and F-20A. I will put down the planes that has the advantage
Flight performance
Other planes: much better than F-4EJ KAI. F-4EJ airframe is worse than even F-4E because it lacks combat flaps “agile eagle”.
Missile quality
Mig-21 bison: much better than F-4EJ KAI due to midcourse correction of R-24R and the fact it is super manuverable at the end stage that you can’t dodge it like you dodge an AIM-7.
Missile quantity
F-4EJ Kai: no doubt the winner here.
Compared to the 12.0 Phantoms it is better equipped and does belong 0.3 higher than them. The issue… 12.0-13.0 is stupidly compressed.
Most 12.0s shouldnt be facing most 13.0s and the strongest aircraft something like the F-4EJ Kai at 12.3 should be facing is the F-18s, F-16s and Mig-29s along with a few of the weaker Fox-3 aircraft. Not the IRCCM slingers and stronger Fox-3 aircraft currently only 0.7 higher.
The F-4EJ Kai (and tenatively its closest equivalent the Tornado F3/ADV) should be at 12.3, but it should not be the same BR as the F-16/F-18
They should give it Aim-7P to compensate. Mig-21 bison already have midcourse correction so it won’t be OP and the EJ KAI will have something going for it.
not with datalink, which would make the change from 7f to 7p almost useless. the early f-16 radars don’t have datalink. only benefit it would get is iog
Well, too bad. Though I am not opposed to Gaijin giving Aim-7P to F-15 and 12.3+ planes to be in line with the R-27R, as a gameplay balancing decision (regardless of historical accuracy)
best sarh missiles air force planes can get is the mh which is the same as the normal m but with lofting… which is nearly useless. so most planes are stuck with 7m/f unless theyre navy plane
