Does both missiles have same motor rocket,same body shape,same fin designs and same general aspects?

R-73 and Magic 2 IRCCM works better at close range, lets say 1.5/1.0 km, while AIM-9M and AAM-3 IRCCM works better at long range and side on.

Exactly, that’s what I wanted to say. But if you see the 9M coming from any direction, you can easily flare it. With the R73 and Magic2, when they are at their optimal range, they cannot be flared unless the opponent is in a head-on or firing from a side aspect.

My R73 has never behaved like this, and I also never fire at ranges over 3.5km to see how they perform.
İnteresting claim considering most R73 users had this kind of similiar experience at least one i believe.
People often use them as close range missile but R73’s can easily reach 3-4km depending on angle and speed, the reason they dont fire to those long distances because IRCCM can easily decoyable with flares at those distances while Aim-9M doesnt.
Yeah they need to fix the tvc asap bc that shit is buggy asf, but the irccm is fine imo. It’s possible to avoid almost all of the 9M shots if your target react in the right moment but a considerable amount of r73 shots are just guaranteed kills if ur close to the target…
I think right now the 9M is just slightly better than the r73 due to the tvc being crap, but imo once they fix it both missiles will be equal in terms of balance.
