So it’s only beaten by the F-22? Amazing
In what the F-15 did, the F-22 is definitely better in performance, the F-16 is for other missions, although in WVR the clean F-16 may be better. The article shows what the F-15 can do and the F-16 can’t ( high AoA, low speed maneuverability).
how is it high speed manuerability though? surely worse than an F-16, but is it really bad or something?
The F-16 is exceptionally good at sustained maneuvering around M0.9. There aren’t many aircraft that can keep up with it. The F-15 has similar SEP and similar turning performance, but the F-16 has a big advantage in transitional maneuvering. In short, the F-16 transitions from maneuver to maneuver with less energy loss than the F-15.
But that doesn’t mean the F-15 is bad at higher speeds. It depends on several things.
At higher altitudes the F-15 turns better due to the larger wing, also the added weight of weapons and equipment does not have as dramatic effect on the F-15’s performance as it does on the smaller F-16. Acceleration at higher mach numbers will be better on the F-15 than the F-16 due to its intake ducts… Well, it depends.

To the Point of interest/ccrp Point?
Anyone know a manual I could use to make a bug report about this?
We have already discussed this topic with the MiG-23 somewhere on the new forum, as well as on the old one…
- The angle of attack of the F-15 is measured in conventional units this is -10 degrees relative to the true angle of attack…
2.The maximum true angle of attack of the F-15C is reached at (20,000 ft/37,100 lb/204-299 KCAS)…
…THIS = 42 true degrees of AOA…
That is not true, the difference is charted in the manual but it is not always just “subtract 10”.
This isn’t the maximum angle, obviously the aircraft has shown excursions beyond this on multiple occasions and when would maximum AoA ever be achieved at high altitude?
- Angle of attack-…the angle between the direction of the velocity vector of the flow (liquid or gas) impinging on the body and the characteristic longitudinal direction chosen on the body, for example, in the case of an airplane wing, this will be the wing chord, in the case of an airplane, the longitudinal construction axis, and in the case of a projectile or rocket, their axis of symmetry.
- Many confuse climbing with a deviation of some angle with the angle of attack…
- This is not 10%…
4.I can throw this book to you-49.8 Mb…
Spoiler
Yes, the conversion is not linear, the right hand rule says -10 degrees, but it depends
I got it mixed up, so we discussed it!..Although this does not change the fact that for the F-15 42 degrees of true AOA is the limit…
It clearly isn’t, re-read what @wasa850 posted.
If you’re going to claim it is the max for that specific condition, say that, otherwise stop making vague statements.
I’ve already dropped the link to the books -read it!
These are the screenshots that I previously sent him from these books…
In order for the F15 to reach an angle of attack greater than 42 degrees, you need a lot of ideal conditions…- for example, to make the stars of the Milky Way Galaxy line up in one line…

Spoiler
This figure is not Pugachev’s Cobra (the Cobra is executed from horizontal flight while maintaining the Horizontal motion vector)…
By the way, we saw it on the video (1.40 m)…it seems to have been introduced-Overpowering the Control Stick of the Aircraft as on the Soviet/Russian planes…
The F-15 with FbW is different than the F-15A/D with the older analog CAS. the roll rate has gotten faster, wing rock is well damped… before it was more up to the pilot, but if he knew how and where… Eagle had very good low speed and high AoA capabilities. A friend former eagle driver pilot flew Eagle in dogfight at 50 knots and high alpha. It took a lot of time to change direction in an F-15, but it was possible if you had the talent and understood eagle using your butt. Holloman base early 80’s.
Highly likely that new F-15s’ FbW is based on Hornets’ FbW which has emergency limiter override function
