Holy moly, just no.

F-90 had some strengths that might have been too strong for 12.7.

But Aim-54s? They are laughably easy to defeat and should pose no meaningful threat. If your only defence is MP and you are flying in perfectly straight lines towards enemy bases without even trying to defend (and based upon your other posts, I assume this is the case) then of course you will die.

Facts I don’t think I have yet to die to an AIM-54 they are very easy to notch.

I did a few times before the Tornado FM overhaul as that thing didnt get into the notch well. After that, i’ve taken a few hits from them from the splash damage, but I dont recall eating any directly.

Man, I was liked F-14 before playing WT,
And I dislike [F-14 in War Thunder] and those Tomcat cultists who wanted to defend their Tomcat when it was discriminately underrated.

But Times have changed, and Tomcats are not as powerful as before.

Sending F-14A USN higher to 13.0 is nothing but an awful idea.
Because there are nearly every jet on the current 13.0 acts better than the F-14A USN.

F-14A USN is F-4S on steroids with AIM-54.

Yes. It is 4th gen fighter, so a skilled ‘Tomcat driver’ is annoying on downtier.

Even though AIM-54 is the worst ARH missile in this game, still it has an advantage against 3rd GEN with bullshit RWR.
(They can defend against Phoenix, but need more concern than planes with better RWR and fuselage)

If we don’t consider Phoenixes at all, they dogfight well against 3rd gen.

Still, it doesn’t mean that it is 13.0 material.

  • AIM-54 is unmatched against AIM-120 from F-4F ICE or Tornado F.3 AOP mostly (only better at max range)

  • AIM-9H isn’t IRCCM unlike R-73 or AIM-9M does.

  • We even have a direct successor F-14B, in the current 13.0 BR.

Again, I don’t like tomcats in WT
But killing F-14A for guaranteed base bombing is a bad idea.

Welp, it is ironic that I came here to defend F-14A. :|

Well, F-14A’s shape is still OP though XD

She is way more beautiful than Su-34.

Its just annoying having to fly in circles just to avoid them. I want to be the among first fighting

wait until you find out about aim120s

So, You wanted to nerf F-4EJ because you can’t bomb with your J-7D and F-8E

And now you want F-14A dead because avoiding AIM-54 is annoying?

Man… really…?

Put yourself in Tomcat’s shoes.
They will also annoyed if they need to face AIM-120 from F-15E.
Just for you?

You are ashaming every bomber/attacker main. Pal.

There is a reason why people like myself who genuinely enjoy playing ground attackers are called “bad players” even though we are aguably the most handicapped in the match

Judging by your other thread where you stated that you base rush in fighters, it is not a big assumption to make.

The F-14 was the first 4th generation fighter. To say it’s 3rd generation is being dishonest. It’s super maneuverable, has one of the most powerful radars in the world, and has great BVR capability and weapon systems.

The F-15 wasn’t built to be unstable, and the only version that has FBW is the 4.5+ gen F-15EX.

Many fighters aren’t rated for 9G. Infact, the F-16 and F/A-18E are the only 4th gens in the US arsenal that are rated for 9G maneuvering. That doesn’t mean the aircraft couldn’t handle it. A great F-14 pilot known as “Snort” has been quoted many times that he took the F-14 to 9G sustained without any issues. To say the F-14 wasn’t designed for 9G maneuvering in mind and then turn around and say the F-15 is a 4th gen is just crazy.

It all makes sense now. You’re one of those.

Just wondering, what do you mean about ‘one of those’?

Of the 1970s maybe, but is by far one of the weakest at its BR and massively outclassed by a few at a lower BR like the Foxhunter in the Tornado F3 [12.0] or Blue Vixen in the Sea Harrier FA2 [13.0] which entered service in the 1990s

It’s always hilarious when people say the Tomcat A’s armament is good when it has some of the worst IR missiles at its BR and AFK Check Phoenixes.

And what you guys NEVER EVER talk about is how utterly terrible the survivability is. Not only are you a massive target (Slimming down the wings doesn’t change the damage hitbox lmao), which is already a disadvantage, but you have engines that are so hilariously overtuned in the temps it’s laughable, and an RWR from a full BR bracket lower than it. (Not counting the Attackers), and the bad acceleration/TWR doesn’t help either. Oh, and good luck flaring off anything rear aspect with 60 CM pops.

Well if we’re talking early 4th gens (1970s) nothing beat it out until almost 3 decades later with the F-22’s radar. HPRF limits it a lot, but in pure power/range it’s up there imo.

He’s one of those people who somehow thinks the failed F-111B would be better than the F-14 at its job.

Blue Vixen which entered service in 1993 massively outperformed basically anything in the US arsenal of the time. Was reported to be on par/superior with AN/APG-70 series of radar but about half the size/weight

That’s cool and all but I just got flashbanged by looking up “Blue Vixen”. I’m scarred for life /s

Anyways yeah, if that’s true that’s great. Unfortunately, it’s mounted on a harrier, and during that time period, you can start to bring the F-14D’s AN/APG-71 to the discussion which absolutely sweeps the Vixen.
