It has better performance than the Sidewinder (USAF) / Sparrow (-7D / -7E) at higher altitudes (above 3km and 5km respectively), and the MC-3 actually has look down capability, so beats out the F-4C & -4E.
Also 24x proximity (Variable delay) fused 2.75" FFAR (as seen with the F-89D) aren’t that bad, especially considering the Fire modes implemented in WT so it can be Stretched to more than one engagement.
And if you count the YF-102A, the MB-1 / AIR-2 is also an option.
The F-4 specifically lacked the automated systems of the F-102 and F-106, due to being a much smaller aircraft and so lacked space combined with needing many steps to be performed pre-launch (that would other wise be automated) leading to rapid task saturation which is not suitable for use in a dogfight, where you might only have ten seconds at best but isn’t an issue for a planned interception.
Which will not be an issue it WT anyway since almost all of the Switchology is abstracted anyway.
Besides if it was actually unreliable, why was it permitted to remain in service until '76? With the F-106 soldering on until '86 Only to be replaced by the F-15A with Frontline units.
aim54 can be annoying to avoid with bad rwr planes but usually not that crazy, you just have to use a little meta knowledge when uptiered at 12.0 and dont fly in areas you are likely to be targetted early game
Go with F-14 IRIAF. Toss 4 F90s. In a 14.0 game. See Rafale’s and EF2Ks get pounded. Then go to forums . See them cry on forums. Then some smartass comes tell you that he can beat Tomcat in his Ef2K like if it’s a miracle pro-skill play…
That’s the community.
They had problem with F90 at 12.7 because it was 2 fast. No, they had problem because they just want to fly straight ahead and “ace combat”.
I don’t understand why you’re responding to me, I never said the missiles were annoying to avoid, I do it almost every game since I don’t play top tier anymore until the FLIR issue for top tiers is sorted out. It’s quite easy to avoid. but the points op makes about them are still valid. The F-14 is oppressive in it’s BR range, especially in down tiers because it carries 8 good missiles in an excellent air frame. From my experience playing Israel and France and the UK, it was damn near impossible to fight them in a manner resembling a fair fight unless you were in a higher BR plane.
For Israel the Kfir and kurnass are just worst, in every way. Same for Britain with the phantoms. And France has just the Mirage F1 (both premium and normal version). All these planes are constantly up tiered to fight the objectively much better F-14. I agree with OP the F-14 is too good at that BR. Top tier should be more decompressed so the F-14 can fight similar planes but every time someone says anything they get harassed by the “but it’s a skill issue problem” crowd.
You asked if the other fella “even read the post” and I have to imagine that is what you were referring to. (regarding avoiding aim54 and multipathing and all that)
On a grand level yeah but not with current compression, ie I say they should be farther from the current 12.0 than they are but currently they are fine and are also avoidable enough with current compression in mind.
very easy to dodge aim54a if you cant dodge that then you wont like top tier this is a skill problem even if your a 4 way rwr like on mig 21 and mig23 you have enough to dodge go and notch and crank
hey to be fair though amazing planes honestly the su33 being 12.7 while the f14b is 13.0 is kinda silly big thing i was happy about was f14b could counter r27er spam back in the day
