Due to LFM. The AIM-54C isn’t just regular HPRF. I don’t know how they exactly implement it, as they don’t say, but the idea is that you use the regular underlying HPRF waveform for doppler measurements, but use what is essentially an overlayed FMCW waveform to be able to measure to higher unambiguous ranges, allowing separation between targets in range, which the natively low unambiguous range measurement of HPRF wouldn’t allow.
There is the problem where the pulsed waveform introduces some problems with the FMCW range measurements, introducing (blind) range gaps, but it can be solved in some ways, but again nowhere does it actually say how well it performs or how they implement it.
Because reports on the Aim-54C’s aspect capabilities were getting denied due to sourcing planned capability, I made a new report: Community Bug Reporting System
on that note, i think we need datalink pods for missiles that can use man in loop if they need it and if the plane can not carry it, it should be removed. delta pod on mig-27 and su-22s follow that logic for kh-23
