why would it not be compatible with aim7p datalink? it has link 16 integration.

Something to do with software itself from what i could understand.
F-14D’s Link16 is limited to aircraft-to-aircraft connection. I’d imagine its because AIM-54 runs on its own DL for aircraft-to-missile information transfer which eliminates any other type of such link from being used in this role.
It has been proven with official documents so I’m afraid thats just how it is.

Link 16 has nothing to do with this, there are other methods of datalink that are related but not the same
IIRC, the seeker is always on. In case of EGBU/LJDAM, the bomb however doesn’t listen to seeker inputs until it gets within a certain range from the target (based on GPS).
There have been efforts in the past to put datalink on GNSS weapons though, but I don’t know if it went anywhere.

Pretty sure the element 2 (Attack Mode) selector, means “Dive / Loft”.
And for Element 3(Electrical Fuze) selector it’s DeLaY 1 &, Delay 2
The only Datalinked Weapon the F-14 carried was the AGM-53 Condor, a powered Walleye

laser weapons IRL use a digital code inputed into the targeting pod and the bomb, this helps with jamming and weapons logic. datalink could be used to change the code or maybe change the GNSS or maybe the fuse? but it is not datalink 16, that thing is too modern for that, aircraft carry pods for weapon datalinks such as the ones on A-7E which adds the man in loop capability on the AGM-62ER.

Depends specifically on the ordnance in question, more modern options like the GBU-53 directly participate in the Link-16 network to receive & transmit data.
But yes, most if not all of the first tranche of Data linked weapons (AGM-62ER/DL, GBU-15, AGM-84E, AGM-154 , etc.) all recapitalize the basic Walleye Datalink Module.

Let’s assume the vehicle somehow lacks the DL like Gaijin assumes based on undisclosed documents. This does not prevent from having missile’s IOG.

Yeah IOG should still be usable without datalink but these documents you’re talking about were in fact posted in one of F-14 related threads. If you search deep enough you should prob find them.

Doesn’t the aim-54c already have all aspect capability in lookup, I don’t get how it can become all aspect lookdown considering it’s HPRF irl
