Everything wrong with the Tan-SAM Kai (TADS)

If I am not mistaken, the seeker is the exact same as on the AAM-4.

I’ve never heard that. Do you have a source? The Type 81C specs don’t mention AAM-4 functions, so I don’t think it’s correct.

I think he meant that Type 81C also uses AESA ARH as AAM-4B?
It is very doubtful and mostly wrong that seeker is the same because here is big difference in diameter of both missiles.

About AESA at Type 81 ARH - it is quite interesting. There were information in TRDI 50th about it. But here isn’t any mention about this really high tech advantages (equipping 100kg missiles with AESA) in part about Type 81C development so I thought it was only experimental or mistake
What is also weird for me is that they did AESA seeker for 1996’s missile but haven’t done it for 2003 missile at Type 03 Chu-SAM because one of main differences of Type 03 Kai is new AESA seeker.

But with your source it looks like Type 81C ARH really has AESA seeker?

Isn’t there any other books or journals with information about AESA seeker on Type 81C ARH?

No

It is from the same TRDI 50th.

So I missed it while fast rechecked this article

But still weird that they did AESA seeker for Type 81C ARH and didn’t for Type 03 missile

Saving money is really important for the Japanese Ministry of Defense, that’s why half of the documents like 50 and 60 years of TRDI talk about how much this and that saves money etc.

Yes, despite having the most expensive MBT in the world.

I believe the section 2-(1) of this document, which states, “This study uses radio waves in the shorter-wavelength Ka-band, requiring more compact and precise components compared to conventional radio guidance systems. Since simply extending existing technologies would be difficult and costly, we conducted research on a new type of antenna and high-frequency transistor,” serves as a reasonable answer.

As far as I know, Japan had conducted R&D on active phased array radars in the S-band to X-band range, but not in the Ka-band. Also, as seen with the Type 81C, there’s an emphasis on miniaturization. In general, using a single transceiver unit is more cost-effective than equipping each element with its own T/R function, which may be another factor.

At the very least, among the freely available and internet-accessible materials I reviewed, the only sources that mention the seeker are TRDI 50th Book and relevant passages in the Defense Technology Journal. Whether due to high confidentiality or a lack of initiative from the developers to publish, the information available feels quite insufficient.

While it’s possible to access additional materials through paid copy requests or by visiting the National Diet Library, I currently have no plans to do so.

I don’t have a copy of the book, but the Japanese wikipedia page for Type 81 lists “PANZER 臨時増刊 陸上自衛隊の車輌と装備2012-2013 2013年1月号,アルゴノート社,P88” as a reference that has the AESA, so it is possible that it is listed in this book.

One report from myself

I saw that description too and checked the 2018–2019 edition, but it only mentioned that it was ARH. I’d like to see the 2012–2013 edition someday as well.

Another bug fix update and still no changes or improvements to this vehicle…really getting annoyed right now cuz this is hindering and directly impacts war thunder top tier gameplay.

Spends more time doing this (why is it only limited to 11.0+ currently? 10.7 and below is just gunna get cucked more)

Looking at StatShark, it has the lowest spawn rate among the added SAMs, the worst K/S and K/D ratios, and the only thing to praise is its ground kills.
Well, as things stand, this vehicle has the least value.

Gaijin fixed only a tiny portion of its bugs and theres tons still out there it explains why its not often used

Gaijin doing stuff like this instead of addressing the hundreds of bug reports about the vehicles they released in Leviathans…

Completely valid to just not use it
I gave up trying to use it because of the schizo radar not working at all in ground rb
It barely can work in the test drive…
and even in custom battles with a friend we joked his aircraft had stealth coating because the radar completely failed to track him at 3km distance which is crazy the older type 87 would track a jet fine at that distance

gaijin otw to make japan suffer once again
