Problem is that, the aircraft in picture is the 98+07 airframe, one which is famously used to test weapons platforms and upgrades for the Lw’s typhoon fleet.
Stil german, with obviously german markings
technically and i really mean technically, its not “German”. It’s owned by NETMA and registered with the Lw.
But it operates from German airbases, it operates under German liveries and designations and is as German as any operational Lw aircraft, negligible difference tbh.
yeah its negligible.
So about the AMRAAMs…
I can’t find any proof of German EFs specifically carrying later AMRAAM models. It is known that the Lw has A/B models(all of the pictures also have AMRAAMs without clipped fins).
However, the B’s stock expired a few years ago so I dont think its wrong to assume that they’ve been replace by later models by now.
Unless they mostly now use Meteor and only use old stock Aim120Bs for training. Just skipping aim120Cs
Didnt we just order new amraams for F35 as well?
About ~1k AIM-120C-8 iirc
earlier this year they were using AIM-120s on the Eurofighters for Blatic Air Policing… The request to buy 969 AIM-120C-8s is also rather interesting. the F-35 sale includes some 105 C-8s and this new request from July is the newest export request from the Bundesregierung. This is roughly as many AIM-120C-8s in total as Meteors have been produced until 2018… There just aren’t that many Meteors, especially at its price point of like 2 000 000€…
Here’s a picture from March this year with it clearly carrying an AMRAAM with full fins(not clipped).
There is a chance though that the clipped fins just dont mean anything
Forgot about the F35 and US saltiness
Ah, interesting
I think currently Lw replacing B models to C-8.
969 AMRAAM is too much for only 35 F-35A use. maybe High-Low mix on missiles?
Price of 2 000 000€ for single missile may have been burdened for German MoD…
Well not really if you consider that SCAF is slowed by Germany, which is obviously waiting for a reason to quit it, and buy more F-35 instead ^^"
It dosen’t matter to me who delays FCAS program.
Even if the program proceeds, the actual deployment is expected to be 2050+.
I think it is reasonable to purchase additional F-35A to fill the national security gap in between.
And also Germany have another options to enter BAE Tempest.
i think thats a fair assumption.
f-35 is tornado replacement in its IDS role, not Eurofighter replacement and not even for the EW role.
FCAS will be Eurofighter replacement, not intended for ground strike
on another note
[Painful times intensifies]
Well,… don’t what you were expected btw,… 2026 not before
surely this applies to all nations and we wont see early typhoon prototype performance equivalent planes in the next year right?
Surely we will be seeing equivalent capable planes added for every nation that had them and not only after they have become irrelevant and outclassed right?
Of course it could be more faster then I guess.
