Eurofighter Typhoon - Germany's Best Fighter Jet

well of course we wouldnt Pirate IRST at the start, but all typhoons are brimstone capable

thats wrong. the Lw never got PIRATE. what you’re remembering is the rear DASS MWS sensor which only a handful of eurofighters lack now. more than half of the Tranche 1 eurofighters have it

I believe they do have PIRATE now

they do not.
here is a tranche 3A Eurofighter:

31+45, GS105

GS1-28 are Tranche 1
GS29-88 are Tranche 2
GS89-113 are Tranche 3A
GS114-143 will be Tranche 4

The PT3 has it sometimes, GS29 has it most of the time, GT26 sometimes as well but those are test aircraft(IPA3 and IPA7).

Yeah Germany reserves the right to mount it if they chose (but they do not because maintenance costs)

Yes. its a very modular aircraft. you can always add or remove things like that ofc at some sort of cost.
Spain for example uses dummy Laser Warning receivers because it would be cheaper to just replace the dummy than to replace the panel as well…(they’re wired for it anyways)

I do wonder what kind of effect the PIRATE has on the frontal RCS

Its something to consider, given that the Eurofighter has reduced RCS, but its not truly stealthy either

DECLASSIFIED, OK?

somehow stumbled across this image
German Eurofighter with Storm Shadow. Obviously for flight testing and integration but still funny to see

i feel like this could be a good showcase of how different Eurofighters can carry the same weapons with as “little” as a software update

definitly should get them then, same reasoning pgms were distributed , only because of test flights as well

Would need datalink for them to be much use in GRB i reckon. But would be awesome in SB for taking out bases cross map

they are of no use in GRB. only useful in ARB and air sim against ships and bases but for bases we’d need a rework of that mechanic because these are penetrating missiles designed to blow up fortifications, not deliver a large payload(low explosive weight)

Ah yeah, they’d need some kind of damage multiplier applied to them for bases and AFs

or they do this for the headquarters at air bases which makes more sense with the range

As far as I know these kind of missiles are adjustable in terms of penetration power, target types and area damage. At least the Taurus is. Stormshadow probabyly as well. The tandem penetrator for max anti-bunker is just one option.

There are also warheads which might be self homing and dispense smart submunitions to knock out tanks and other vehicles / gun positions. Similar to smart 155 shells from the Panzerhaubitze…just more sub munitions than the 155mm smart shell.

Warheads for other damage types are possible, too.

Yeah, though even bases which I think are akin to forward supply bases would still be an ideal target for Storm Shadow. At least Ukraine has been using them to great effect for that role.

I think its more their value in GRB over shorter range AGMs. I dont know what germany had. But for the British Typhoon why use 2x Storm Shadow when you could run 12x Brimstone. You’d rarely be a situation in GRB where you’d need the massive range. Nor any reliable way to aim them. Especially vs a moving target

Look at this BSF HQ Storm Shadow strike. Looks like this one is also able to do just HE damage, like a 500 kg bomb, roughly. You would need probably 5 to take down one base. Means its not viable for Air RB.

Yeah, that’s what we were saying, It would need some kind of damage multiplier or a rework on how the “damage” is calculated as it does more than just pure “boom”

With a lot of modern jets carrying guided bombs over mass unguided bombs. I think that would benefit a lot of weapon types. I’ve been thinking bases needed weak points that could be hit with a guided bomb for increased damage (like 2.5x multiplier)
